I converted all 9 of my old Iris moisture sensors from CR2 batteries to AAs. CR2s lasted about 8 months. I hot-glued the sensor to a simple AA battery case and soldered the wires to the battery terminals. Easy peasy. I switched drivers so they would not report the temperature. Wishing I could extend the battery reporting from 1 day to 2 days. Or have them report only when the batteries are low. Hoping to go 2+ years without a battery change.
That’s an excellent idea for leak sensors in hard-to-reach spaces. I’ve done this for leak sensor behind the refrigerator for example.
I wouldn’t be too concerned about the daily battery report. That is probably very inconsequential battery usage, and provides an important indication for when the sensor is not working at all (if it doesn’t have a daily report in).
Agreed. I used to graph and “pay attention” to battery reports but it’s a fools game. Device Activity Check is perfect for telling me when batteries are dead because the device has actually stopped communicating whether it’s been at 0% for a couple months or just reported 80% yesterday. I guess over a long period of time you could figure out per-device what a normal value for “I’m about to die” is and proactively replace, but none of my battery devices are important enough to me to do that.
