Controlling multiple fans with Bond Hub through Alexa

Hello all. I have a Bond Bridge with 4 fans connected to it, and all work as they should. I used the HE Bond integration to include all of the fans, and yes, I can control them through HE..

I further included those 4 fans to the Alexa Integration skill, and Alexa picks up all 4 fans. Yea!

Here's my problem,

I have each of the fans in their respective Alexa 'rooms' (Groups), along with the corresponding Echo device. The intent is that I should be able to say "Alexa, turn the fan on/off" in that specific room/location. This works very nicely for lights in the same room, however I can only specify 'the fan" for the 1st fan I add to Alexa through the integration. Every other fan requires me to say the complete device name, such as "Living Room Fan".

Has anyone else observed this behavior? and if so, is there a solution to this?

Thanks in advance!

I do that exact thing but it requires Node Red and an Alexa integration that detects what device you're speaking to. It's working great lately for me but it's been inconsistent for many. I can say "turn on the fan" or "it's hot in here" and the fan in the room of the Alexa I was speaking to turns on.

If you want to go down that rabbit hole, let me know and I will find the thread from a couple years ago where I explained how I did it.

Thanks for your offer. Maybe I’m wrong, but didn’t the Echo devices have some sort of mechanism built in that helped them determine which Echo was ā€˜closest’ to your voice and let it determine what room it was in? I also have whisper mode set on, so I even tried that to ā€˜force’ the specific device to react.

Alexa and Echo Speaks USED to allow you to determine which device your were talking to. That capability was removed by Amazon long ago.

Damn… didn’t realize that. Well that sucks! :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Yes, I had a couple dozen webcore pistons that used the wasLastSpokenToDevice capability to control LOTS of things in my house. I had to abandon/rewrite all of those.
