I recently moved into a new house and a lot of the doors have trim not conducive to mounting contact sensors. What are some of your creative ways to install to combat this issue? Pictures might help. Thank you.
My personal favorite is the Aeotec Recessed Door Sensor 7 but the Sensative Strips Guard are also VERY low profile and work well once paired. pairing can be tricky. If you can find them the GE Enbrighten Z-Wave Smart Hinge Pin Door Sensor… well mounts on the hinge pin.
Do you have any pictures so we can see the trim? For mine, I just flipped the two pieces to make them fit (bigger piece on the door); others are angled upwards rather than sideways. I even have a few on the backside of the door because that place was flat compared to the other.
In some areas, I replaced the magnet with a smaller one. There are a few options - one would require a small hole to be drilled and it would fit into it. The other is doughnut shaped and can be screwed in place.
I use them exclusively. Put them in the top of the door and the door frame. Invisible. They are kind of expensive, but the wife acceptance factor (WAF) is high.
I use magnets collected from old laptop hard drives, very thin and have a huge magnetic field and of course my wife wants the sensor color to match. ![]()
I use several of these. Completely hidden and work very well.
