Contact sensor not reporting sometimes?

I’ve got an “aliexpress special” contact sensor I’m using for a door. I feel like it was working very reliably for a while, but lately it sometimes fails. I’ve been noticing that it isn’t registering the “closed” state event, despite me seeing the light on the device come on.

I’ll open it, close it, and repeat… and seemingly eventually it “resets” and gets working consistently again?

No clue why it randomly fails doesn’t seem there’s anything I can find to reliably reproduce. Is temperature a possibility? It’s indoors but attached to my garage door, and is the coldest spot in my house…

Battery is reporting at 62% right now. Using the generic zigbee contact sensor device driver.

Temp swings might be causing the spacing to get altered just enough to mess with the sensor's reporting consistency. That can be hard to replicate if those tolerances are fluctuating right around its limits.

Or it could just be AliExpress wonkiness :person_shrugging:

I have had a temp/humidity sensor inside my garage that will not stay connected when it drops below about 35 degrees. The garage does not have insulated walls.. so it gets pretty cold in there. After seeing it drop off 5 or 6 times pretty consistently; then bringing it inside and having it work perfectly; let me to believe it was the temperature. Just my $0.02.

This would be my guess rather than ambient temperature. I've got four zigbee contact sensors that will only report temperature as their battery starts to fail. Open/Close reporting becomes very sporadic and inconsistent. What type of batteries does the sensor take?
