I haven't messed around with trying to run HAOS in a VM for years. I use a HA Yellow PoE hub with a 1TB NVME SSD. I run HAOS directly on the Yellow's RPi CM4 module (i.e. no virtualization.) This has worked flawlessly for a few years now. I run InfluxDB, Grafana, Node-RED, and NUT as HA Add-Ons. I have my Hubitat C8-Pro hub integrated with the HA Yellow. Thus, I have the best of both worlds, with very low electrical power usage.
