Hello. I'm new to using Hubitat and I did try to poke around the forums for an answer to this, but didn't find anything. So, apologies if I missed it.
I have 4 Sengled Element Color Plus bulbs that I just bought. Everything is generally fine, except if I turn the bulb off via Hubitat app or through an Alexa voice command, then toggle the light switch power off and back on. When I do this, the bulb turns on at 1% brightness, even though I turned it off from 100% brightness.
Playing around a little, I get the sense that the "off" command might be a facade over just rolling the brightness down from 100 to 0. So when I toggle current to the bulb via the (non-smart) switch, it remembers being in a state of 1% brightness since it was ramped down to that state before being at 0... or something.
So, two questions. First, am I inferring correctly about how this works? Secondly, how do I get it not to work that way (or fix this in any case)?
I do believe that is how Hubitat implemented the "off" command in their Sengled drivers since it's otherwise a sharp cutoff, in contrast to most other bulbs. I'm not aware of any great workarounds, but some people have had luck using the "Generic Zigbee RGBW Light" driver (or a similar generic driver, depending on your bulb). There are Sengled-specific drivers for a reason, but I can't remember if there is anything more than this or if you'd miss out on something by not using them.
Be sure to hit "Configure" after switching drivers, by the way.
You could also just say "Dim X to 100%" instead of "turn X on," but that gets more difficult with Dashboards, and even by voice, it's more of a mouthful...
Thanks for the response! I had actually found another thread and tried using the "Advanced Zigbee RGBW Bulb" driver, but it threw all kinds of Java exceptions in the logs. I didn't realize you needed to click configure, so that alone was a big help.
I tried that driver again, set the time settings to ASAP, and the errors stopped, but the behavior was similar. I then tried the Generic driver you suggested, and that did the trick.
Thanks very much! I'm glad I don't have to return all of these bulbs.
Incidentally, are there multi-color light brands that do better with their native Hubitat drivers than these Sengleds? I'm not married to them -- I just used them with my old Wink hub.
Probably most bulbs. (I'm not a huge fan of anything except their price.)
I'm probably a bad person to ask, as most of my bulbs are Hue bulbs connected via a Hue Bridge. However, I've used a couple Innr bulbs (both direct to Hubitat and via Hue), and they seem to work well. If you aren't married to Zigbee, then lots of people seem to like LIFX. Those are just a couple I can think of; others may have more ideas.
On the other hand: I'd probably stay away from IKEA given the oddities some (probably not all) of their bulbs have, and I'd also be wary of old ZLL (Zigbee Light Link) bulbs like many Sylvania/Osram models given problems they (including at least some older Hue bulbs) seem to have when mixed with ZHA 1.2 or Zigbee 3.0 devices on the same network, but they'd be hard to find on the new market nowadays.
