Cloud accounts affected by breach

A reason why Home automation can suck. I came home to a dead house - and trying to find out why led me to learn that a 'data breach' had caused many things to break.
My porch light happens to be a Kasa bulb. it's on Wireless. All my Kasa devices were dead.

Those accounts google security flagged as 'breached'. talk about a PAIN in the â– â– â– . it's not the security that bothers me, it's the integration. Just to get a bulb on, took nearly an hour. This aint right.

Thats why you want to keep automation as much local as possible. As well controlable manually in case hub is dead or not working.

I see my kasa plugs are "local only" in the kasa app. Assume it is related to this breach. Anyone got a link to a credible article on what happened and any action affected users should take?

Without proper controls and regulations incorporating cloud based devices/services as a main part of your home system is just not a good idea and maybe it will never be without some sort of reliable local component included as well. I keep my cloud stuff on the edge of my system - on an "old" C-4. Losing internet only stops some voice controls, remote access and a few informational type things.

Also the Ubiquiti hack is looking worse than originally thought - maybe also a cover up by execs. :angry:

Thankfully the impact for me is relatively low as well. Just wanted to see if anyone had any info on any steps I should take, beyond moving my stuff into my local network only.

any link to the breach? I'm curios.
i try to avoid having any of my home automation cloud accessible.
Its one of the things i really like with the hub. I have local passwords protecting the hub, pins on dashboards (and no locks on any dashboard).

Especially sensitive is the door locks and door/window sensors for me.
I use ring as well, but i don't really use that for absolute security -my insurance company required a centrally monitored fire/burglar alarm and ring was the cheapest by a wide margin and was approved by my insurance.

I also use Ubiquiti and i am definately concerned about the reports in the recent days. I use a 14 character password with lots of special characters and i just added two factor authentication. Its still concerning.
