I am working on cleaning up the equipment area in my office closet. Right now my hubs are mounted to PC fans monted to the wall. Previously (with a C7) I had them on a metal monitor riser (shelf) and that was messing up the Z-wave radios. I was thinking about getting a small vinyl coated wire shelf and putting it over the switch to place the hubs on for better ventalation and cooling. Since the new hub has the external antennas, would it still be as suseptiable to interferrence being placed on that wire shelf? or can U put them on a wire shelf with out too much risk of radio interferrence? Eventually I will be looking to put a small rack up there, but that would be the end of another project/ For now I just kinda want to get away from the wall mounting if I can .
How about a glass shelf?
Humm that could work too..
Do you have your hubs mounted on fans?
Yes... and the fans to the wall. I have had it that way for a few years. That was why I was thinking the wire shelf, to improve airflow through the fans.

I haven't paid any attention to how hot my one C8 Pro runs. To this point I have had no issues.
The funny thing is, I actualy haven't really either. it started out as a curiosity thing several years ago when I was still on a C4. Even then it wasn't really an issue. There was a discussion about it (cant find it now) , and I had these laying around, i decided to try it just to see what kind of a difference it makes, and it actually cooled them quite a bit. In the summer its as much as a 30 degree difference. Over the years as I upgraded to C7, C8 and C8 pro I have just kept it going.
I don't blame you I get it. And especially if the hub is on a warmer environment in the summer. Things like this can over heat quickly. Fortunately my hub is on a small wooden display cabinet about 3 feet from my home thermostat so it is in a good cool place.
Looks like Ike we run a lot of the same stuff. I also have a mini PC running HA (bought it off Amazon with HA pre-installed), a UDR7 as my in house router, if that is the POE 8 port switch I have one of those. I bought it to be my switch off my UDR7, but I later switched all my cameras over to Unifi so I then put in a 24 port switch in the mini wrack and repurposed that switch to my out building where it serves several items including an access point.
