Chrome crashes viewing Past Logs

I can't view Past Logs with Chrome on android...it just crashes the browser. I can view it with the Samsung Internet browser no problem.

I have the same issue viewing github code on my phone.

Anyone else?

Well similar not crashes though. I find it hangs awhile. I have found if I leave it open long enough they eventually open and show my past logs. Been like that since the 2.0 ui.

I see same behavior with github as well. Larger code files do crash me here.

As I have custom rom on rooted device I figured my problem s we're there.

I just did the obvious...tested on my wife's phone (we both have Note 8's). It works fine on hers. Cleared the cache and data storage in Chrome....same issue. Really strange.

Corrupt install on your phone maybe?

Uninstalled and reinstalled. It didn't crash but is really choppy scrolling.

Hmmm, rebooted phone? Maybe a process has not released some memory.

Yep

I’m away. Can’t test with the one android device I own at the moment, but I will later.

Appreciate the effort @SmartHomePrimer. At this point it's got to be something installed or a phone setting. I've had this issue forever with github pages. I would always open them with the samsung browser. I just never thought to test it on my wife's phone....always assumed it was a github thing. Both github and the logs open quickly and scroll smooth as butter on her phone. Going to compare apps and phone settings one by one.

Well my Android Device is a Fire HD8. Much less capable than your nice phone. If there are issue, it just might show there.

Does Chrome do beta builds on Android like they do on desktops? Maybe there’s an issue in the release.

I just tried Chrome on my iPhone 7 and it was able to load Past Logs without any issues. I typically use Safari on my iOS devices, which also works fine. Just wanted to add a data point. Hope you get it figured out.

I've been having this problem on my Pixel XL. I can't view past logs because chrome hangs and I either have to kill the app or reboot the phone. I'm on stock Android, no root.

GitHub same too.

Well at least there is someone else.
It works on my wife's phone, my iPad, my Galaxy Tab S2..everything but my phone.

I have uninstalled a ton of apps, removed my SD card, reset chrome and clear the data. Reduced my screen resolution and grid size to match my wife's phone. Not sure what else to do at this point.

@patrick any suggestions?

I have done absolutely no troubleshooting steps  it just continually doesn't work.

Lol
Me neither until now. Github has been an issue for months but never really cared enough to troubleshoot.
I've had a couple of instances where weird things happened while I wasnt at home and I wanted to check the past logs. Time was of the essence so Chrome hanging was a major irritant. That's why I'm investigating now...so the next time I don't feel like throwing my phone in the thrash.

:open_mouth: that’s a nice phone. Throw it my way

Chrome does have some annoying quirks. Cannot highlight text on Chrome for iOS as an example. So cannot quote anyone when I’m on my phone without switching browsers.

How about Firefox for Android? My friend works for Mozilla. Always suggesting it to me for obvious reasons.

Works fine for me on my Pixel 3 XL. My guess is its something in the actual past logs from a 3rd party app.

Could also be a memory issue, since it is loading a lot of data. Although on my phones, Pixel 3XL and a OnePlus 3 they load fine.

Also ran my logs through the simulator and no issues. I'm guessing it has something to do with either quantity of logging or something being logged that causes the error.

Really hard to troubleshoot, unless someone can do a remote ADB session with a chrome debugger and see if any errors are thrown.

I doubt it's either of these since my wife has the exact phone and it opens and scrolls immediately (same for every other mobile browser I've tried). My phone will sometimes scroll but very choppily and in most cases simply hang and crash the browser. Samsung Internet browser loads fine. At this point I'll have to give up and simply use the Samsung browser. Not worth any more effort. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.

I have 2-3 3rd party apps installed. coming home from vacation tomorrow, will check which 3 they are. Tooany drinks and can't remembet right now :sweat_smile:

So if the exact same 2 phones and 1 works and 1 doesn't, that points to potential memory issues on the phone. Try rebooting the phone and see if it works. Android memory management isn't the best, and Samsung's is even worse.

Could also be a cache issue as well.
