Still a great historically accurate description of X-Mas
Pretty much Summer tires and all.
It's actually not like that at all.
As soon as temps dip below 75 (brrrr!!), we declare an emergency and everyone stays home. ![]()
Until recently, I had no idea there was such a thing as winter vs summer tires. Here in Australia, you just buy “tires”, there’s no seasonal distinction.

Oh, really? We actually have Summer, All-Season and Winter tires.
All-Season have a M+S on them (Mud & Snow) and Winter have a mountain or a snowflake on them over here.
I just changed from my all-season to my winter tires. I could have gone with summer/winter, but drove down to the states last Xmas and wouldn’t have been able to leave here with summer tires (too slippery and dangerous) or arrive there (in warm Florida) with winter tires (would likely have worn them really fast during my stay since they are very soft)…
I did some googling, and for the most part, tires here are all-season rated. You can buy winter tires, but only in a small number of specialty tire shops near our Alpine regions.
A little knot here. You can work on that.
Most cars come with all-season tires.
The notable exception is performance and "sporty" cars which often come with summer tires. It's the clueless buyers of those that don't know to swap out the tires for when it snows... and end up leaving squiggly tracks like those above.
