I’m fine with having a tax system, I’d just like to see all the multimillionaires and billionaires paying tax! Most of those f@#ckers pay less tax than a waitress!

I queried Gemini for Elon's tax payments. In 2021 he paid 11 billion.

Which is 10% of the money he made that year, and less than a Waitress in real terms.

Billionaires need to be taxed properly like the rest of us - so if they increase their asset values by say 10 Billion dollars in a given year, they should pay 37% tax on the increase, just like normal wage earners do.

Nevermind all the wealth they create through employing people, growing businesses that contribute to the economy, etc. Sheesh. Get a clue. Why are you constantly pushing your BS politics in this thread?

And yes, I'm especially salty today since I just sent the IRS and ADDITIONAL $12K (estimated) over what they already robbed from me and my wife.

I just sent the US Treasury another big fat check for the extra I get to contribute every year if my wife and I work overtime busting our asses. If Trump gets the no income tax on SSI benefits passed, I may change my planned starting withdrawal date.

Im not pushing BS politics, I hate paying tax as much as the next guy. I hate the super rich not paying their share even more - ppl wonder why Western govs have no money and loads of debt, it's because the tax base is now mostly regular wage earners and the super wealthy no longer contribute much at all.

It's their companies that Hire all the ppl, so dont conflate Personal taxes with company taxes. I dont object to the existence of billionaires, im not a friggin communist.

Healthcare is essentially free in Australia too and our personal tax rates are much lower than in Europe. No one here goes bankrupt because they need healthcare here either.

I would very much like to move to the USA, but I have two children with disabilities, and the US “health care system” would make it financially impossible for us.

How much more the top pay? Take a look at this chart and the bottom 50% vs. the percentiles:

The dollar value is meaningless, look at the percentage of their earnings they pay, it's far less than it should be.

Admittedly, here in Australia it's a little different, the Top 1% only pay 1/5th of total income tax collected (the top 1% is a lot smaller here).

Derek, our friends up North appreciate our self-deprecating sense-of-humour, in much the same way that many of them here have the same outlook on life.... They also like us not posting (when we don't) about their political figures in this space, seeing it as a place where they can relieve themselves from the relentless "advertising-style" political pressure they are subjected to. Whether we agree with that opinion or not... is not the point.... it is the fact that it is their wish that we don't comment on their political situation here.... They want the free air to "enjoy life", much like people might ask to "not talk shop" while enjoying a Friday Night meal and some drinks with friends.

I think we are all intelligent and thick-skinned enough to deflect the odd comment from time-to-time, but continued discussion is a bit taxing... (pun-intended).... I also think we (Aussies) can honour that request (that has been made multiple times) to provide a more pleasurable experience for our friends up North.

Alternatively, you all move down here and we become the global economic and security super-power that we deserve to be... Or not... It's your choice... We've had some great weather lately...

I wish that I could pay 11 billion in tax

Or as some would see it, I wish I could have to pay 11 billion in tax, in the eyes of other tax payers (he says taking another sip.... or two...).

Can we move the tax discussion to another place? It's not weird or funny.

(I did lose at my tax return this year. I got a refund from the state.)

Do you need a referee for your immigration application... (reminder to check the criminal record....)

It hit 40°C (104°F to us Yanks) when I was visiting Sydney. Sadly, too hot for me.
