There's sub classes within some of those as well.
Summer = performance and/or track tires.
A/S - M&S rated or 3PMSF rated, also studded vs studless "ice" rated.
For trucks and some wanna-be trucks/SUV
A/T - some are 3PMSF rated, many are not.
M/T - Mud terrains, never seen a 3PMSF rated M/T. Does not compute for this type tire.
We run Blizzaks here in CO on the cars in the winter. In summer I run Pilot Sport4S on my Audi, wife runs OE A/S (not 3PMSF rated) on her Sorento. Both setup with complete tire/wheel packages for easy changeover. Truck runs 3PMSF rated A/T tire year round.

I ran those when I when I lived in Northern Michigan. They were a great tire in the winter.
I switched to the Firestone Winter Force on my 4x4 Truck now. They have stud holes if needed. I find they work really well in the snow. MPG is a little lower with them on. The car has the all seasons but stays in the garage if the roads are snow covered.

I agree that they should not be connected until they are at least 16 years old! Appliances under that age can be negatively affected by social media (you know, "My main element is hotter than your main element,.." and stuff like that...).
Stud-ready tires cannot be studded after driven on. The holes pack with crap. I don't think you could find a shop that would do it and DIY is an exercise in futility.
