Fun to watch...but from a distance, not the best safety record.
The V-22's mishap rate is comparable to the Black Hawk, when measured per flight hour. It’s just that being new and different, got it a lot of media coverage when it did crash.

Good to know the actual stats...the rep was damaged in the press (big surprise?).
My main personal experience was from talking years ago w/a couple of pilots who flew them at a bar in SoCal (they were in the bar drinking, not flying the V22's in the bar). ![]()
They said that the Osprey was more difficult to learn to fly well (which makes sense, given it's multi-mode design) than other planes they had flown, which did cause some pilot anxiety when they were learning to fly them. They did like the V22 overall, and even they felt the Osprey had a "cool factor."
(We're all kids inside.)
I agree, it is a very, very cool aircraft!
Now it is that scream out in pain when we don't have it....
