That's an Atari 800 (from 1980) in a meme quoting 1996? By then that system was quite antiquated. But our kids still love playing it on the 800 even now... it's still set up. They've introduced their college friends to games on it.

Meanwhile, in 1980, my Mom was already quite amazed that someone was paying to me stare at a computer all day.

Who would have thought they would pay people to play video games. I would have never thought that was ever possible. I'm old enough though that my first console was pong from Sears so maybe that's why.

Ah, good ol' Pong... We used to play it like this as an extra challenge

Ah, good ol' Pong... the original destroyer of CRTs.
Unless you liked seeing that grid all the time on your set. :person_shrugging:

Fifth grade, my brothers and I discovered what magnets did to a color TV screen.

My dad walked into the den while we were "playing" w/a bunch of magnets on the screen, moving them around, making designs, etc. Just having a blast.

Then he let loose a blast... :scream: :scream:

Luckily no permanent damage (unless you looked really close).

EDIT: And luckily since we didn't ruin the TV, no permanent damage to us.

Oh boy we did permanent damage to my grandmothers TV with magnets. The lower corner of the screen always had a green tinge in the lower left-hand side of the screen.

I've just done a check of your post count here...I don't think you even need to bother to put in the batteries.

That explains why she kept taking you to the park across town and then driving home alone leaving you abandoned.

You thought it was her forgetfulness, but it was really her remembering.
