I am new HE converting from OpenHAB. I was trying to get a virtual device I created to show up in the dashboard, but no luck. I also cannot see this device in Alexa via Echo Speak add-on or the IFTTT add-on. The point of this is that I want to press the button from the dashboard and it will start my coffee pot which is on a Alexa smart plug. Any help is appreciated.
Thank you @amithalp for the help. That article got me back me back on track as I forgot the add the device to the selected dashboard device options. But, now Im hung up of IFTTT as I have added it the the devices for that add-on but it is not showing up there. I have removed and reinstalled the app, but no luck.
@DigitalDrift918 I'm pretty sure the IFTTT integration does not support a button as a trigger. It's easy enough to create a virtual switch that automatically turns itself off, so it's basically a button. Those work fine with IFTTT.
Without being painfully ignorant, more so stubborn; I am trying to use my existing alexa plugin, but it does not work directly with HE. So I am trying to create a workaround by using a virtual device button in the HE dashboard to tell alexa to turn on that plug.
But going down this road Im already seeing that I cant even see the virtual devices in the Alexa routine options which may have brought me to a deadend. I can see the virtual device in Alexa under devices though. SMH
You should be able to see a virtual switch in either Alexa or IFTTT. I use both.
You can use Echo Speaks to tell Alexa to activate a skill. I have a motion sensor on HE that triggers an Alexa routine via Echo Speaks to sound like barking dogs. It's only as reliable as all those cloud connections working...
But @amithalp is spot on - if you can use a regular ol' zigbee or zwave smart outlet or plug paired to HE you'll likely have a MUCH easier time of it.
