Cannot pair Zigbee devices

It appears that I can no longer pair Zigbee devices. I put the hub and device in pairing mode and nothing seems to show up. I got a couple things to show up yesterday, but as I did more devices it became more and more rare that things would show up.

I noticed when a some of my Aqara stuff fell off the network. When that happens, I just go around and repair them until they stick or pair them at my desk near the hub. No biggie. (I've had them for years on ST, now HE.)

I tried to re-pair with a Sengled bulb and it doesn't show either. And now I can't control the bulb.

Any thoughts on next steps?

When was the last time you rebooted the hub?

How many? The hub cannot handle more than 32 directly-connected "end devices," meaning non-repeaters that communicate directly to the hub rather than through another repeater. I don't think it's clear if repeaters themselves that connect directly to the hub count against this limit, but in any case, the idea remains that if you have more than 32 devices, you'll need repeaters. Each repeater also has its own, usually far lower (usually single-digit) limit, so with even more devices you'll need even more repeaters--though it pretty much never hurts to have more Zigbee repeaters regardless.

Asking because the Sengled bulbs are not repeaters, nor are any of the Xiaomi sensors (or any battery-powered devices). And if you have any other bulbs, be aware that many are know to be "bad" repeaters and should be avoided since they can also cause problems with both the pairing and operation of other Zigbee devices if "mixed" on the same network.

I rebooted yesterday and was able to get a couple more paired, but today a reboot doesn't help.

According to a search for 'zigbee' I have 34 total Zigbee devices. That includes the Aqara sensors, various bulbs (Sengled, Sylvania), and some plugs. Not all of them are currently in use, so I could delete a few to see if I can pair after that. BUT, none of this stuff is new and worked just a couple days ago.

It actually looks like I have a few more Sengled bulbs, too. Hm. I'll have to remove a bunch of devices and see if I can pair stuff. The weird thing is that it all worked just a couple days ago. I haven't added a new device in a long time. Maybe it was luck that some stuff was using repeaters and other stuff wasn't and something changed throwing it all off.

I removed a bunch of things I wasn't using plus some things that had already dropped off the network. I should be well below the 32 device limit for Zigbee, but it's still not working.

I tried to restore back to 2.2.5.126 to see if that would help, but the version number still says I'm on 2.2.5.131 and I still can't pair Zigbee devices.

Edit: Backups only apply to the database, not the firmware. Onward to try something else...

You can still downgrade firmware as I mentioned in the other thread, but my guess is that there aren't going to have been any changes where this would matter between minor/bugfix firmware versions (I think they've even said there are no Zigbee changes between .124 and .125). But, still something you can try for the purpose of troubleshooting! Easy to upgrade again if it was something else.

Just an update: I did a soft reset, then restored back to the latest version. Things seem to be pairing again.

The cat kept turning on the bedroom lamp with the motion sensor last night because the bedroom button to turn off that automation hadn't been paired yet. WAF was not running at optimal levels for a couple hours, but hopefully that's fixed. :crossed_fingers: (Thankfully that's really been the biggest inconvenience.)
