Fellow Canadians who ordered one on hubitat.com, what was shipping like? Mine was sent out Tuesday and picked up by USPS, but it is now Thursday, and it has not moved at all. I wasn't expecting delivery immediately, but I was expecting some movement. Just wondering if anyone else had any experience with this
I ordered on on December 1st and it arrived on December 12th. I think the package looked like it wasn't moving until it got to the border. From my past experience, things shipped USPS usually arrive in about 2 weeks or less so I thought this was pretty good considering all the extra holiday shipping.
USPS at Xmas.
I order many things from the US and USPS is not expedited. I wait weeks but they are the most reasonable - sometimes.
Shipping over the last few years from the US has become leagalized currency rape.
15.00 from the US was the norm now it's 50.00. I think we subsidize Amazon for all their free shipping.
Well, if it gets here in 2 weeks I will be pretty happy. I just don't like seeing no movement but if thats what it is, then thats what it is.
Sadly, I will watch things arrive in Richmond (Vancouver) and sit there for 3 days without an update.
Don't they know my stuff is important?
Waiting for that weekly flight out
You're lucky. When I ordered mine it went from Scottsdale to Phoenix to Los Angeles. From Los Angeles it went to Frankfurt, Germany and then Prague!
Finally it showed up in Montreal, sat in customs for a week and then was delivered to Ottawa.
USPS: "Canada, I think that's in the EU. Let's send it to Germany, they'll know what to do with it."
Holy. That sounds absolutely painful. Although that reminded to me to check tracking and it appears it has moved to California. Which is not exactly heading towards me, but it's not exactly heading away either. So progress?
Got to love USPS when they do things like that, maybe they should start talking about other subjects than just USA related stuff to there kids. To many egocentric people that think they are the center of the universe and that's all that maters.
We wish we could use UPS. But the problem is despite everything you'd think about "free trade", sending a $99 hub from US to Canada gets hit with ridiculous import fees, taxes, etc. Canada Post (i.e., USPS to Canada Post) doesn't bother with these 95% of the time. But UPS and DHL are contract bound to do so. What a pain!! We used to offer UPS shipping (which is actually $5 cheaper than USPS), but too many recipients flipped out when they got charged extra -- it just became a pain to deal with those issues frequently.
I totally understand. And now that tracking is finally showing it moving, I am perfectly fine with it going USPS. I just ddin't like seeing it stuck in Arizona with no movement. Even if it is moving slowly, at least it is moving and I can see roughly where it is.
Yeah, I hate that tracking. It happens for all international USPS shipments. It will look like it's stuck in LA or SF, and sit there forever. Very hard to explain that to a customer. Lord knows where the package actually is or what is actually going on. Then presto, one day it shows up. We stopped using USPS for virtually all international shipments due to the indeterminacy involved. Only Canada is left at this point.
Yes, I cried when I bought my HE when I left ST. I knew that the 99.00 would be 170.00 CDN landed so I just bit my tongue.
Dogsleds cost so much to rent once they cross the border!
Better than the $190 I found it for in Canada. After conversion I paid $162.46 CAD for mine. So now I sit and hope that I don't pay taxes and duties, or if it I do, it's less than $30 ish and I will still be out ahead.
What ever did happen to the concept of free trade between US and Canada? I thought things purchased from US that cost less than $150 US were supposed to be exempt and free to import?? Or is it $150 Canadian?? Even so, our hub is less than C$150.
Sounds like you have already paid the taxes, most sites like Amazon, Shopify etc. account for local taxes now on purchases.
Remember Mr. Trump rewote "free" trade.
Could be the new rules. I think Mexico and we lost on that one.
It's listed as regular price $149.99 USD on sale for $99 USD. Perhaps (and this is a guess, because I genuinely have no idea) they use $149.99 USD as the factor, which coverts to $205 CAD currently, and is therefore not exempt?
Just a guess though
They never see $149.99. They only see the actual price.
Does the price include shipping cost? If so, I paid over $150 CAD. If not, I have no idea. That was my best guess, I got nothing past that
No, that's just the hub without shipping. But they shouldn't be charging tax/duty on shipping.
At any rate, it's a screwed up mess. There really should be free trade between US and Canada (this has been true for a very long time). US seems to always mess it up, and Canadians seem to always end up with the short end of the stick.
