Question about the usb stick?
I’m playing around with home assistant and hubitat at the same time. Is there anything written to the stick that would prevent sharing while testing/learning?

What would you hope to gain by using Hubitats usb stick in home assistant?
I’ve just been looking at alternative since the last smart things outage. I’m excited about this hub. But the stick it’s self is generic and can be used on multiple machines. As I’m learning more on both I was just curious to see if there were any issues if I tried using it on the Tom assistant computer that I build as well.
I literally just got my hub today. I don’t know much about either. So I was just curious if the hobbit self wrote anything to the USB stick. Or if it locked anything to the stick.
Using the stick with a PC might be the only way to update firmware for some devices if you don’t have an alternate method. I asked about whether firmware updating was supported through Hubitat bit didn’t get an answer (which I’ll consider a “no” for the time being)
Interesting. Overall I’m super excited to get my devices moved over from SmartThings to Hubitat. Home assistant is also pretty neat as far as it has so many capabilities but the learning curve for HA is so steep. Mostly I was wondering if there was any “hold” on the device.
I’m pretty sure it’s just an “off the shelf” part chosen for its dual radio and economy factor.
Agreed. It sure is. I just dont know enough about this stick itself to know if hubitat or other apps write any thing to the stick.
The stick included with Hubitat (in the US, at least) is just a Linear/Nortek HUSBZB-1, which is supported by Home Assistant’s Z-Wave and ZHA components, so you could indeed do what you want. This is exactly what I was doing before I moved to Hubitat. That being said, Hubitat supports Z-Wave and especially ZigBee/ZHA devices much better than Home Assistant, so there’s a reason I don’t have anything “directly” paired to Home Assistant anymore. Hubitat just works better. I still have Home Assistant around and plan to transition off of it at some point (I kept it around when Hubitat was new because it didn’t support Hue yet, which I need for my lighting automations) in favor of Hubitat…and maybe keeping the ST hub around for some cloud integrations, though I hope to eventually move entirely off of that too.
If you want to play around with Home Assistant to see if/how you like it, I suggest keeping your devices paired to Hubitat if they already are (or SmartThings if you don’t mind the cloud—but we’re here because we do, right?) and using the community-created MQTT Bridge apps with an MQTT broker to integrate your devices into HASS. That’s what I’m still doing for my lighting. If you really like HASS more than Hubitat and your devices are actually compatible, you can move them over to HASS directly, but I was a bit disappointed there (but less so than with Vera Plus); your luck may vary depending on your devices.
While we’re on the topic of device compatibility, pretty much any Z-Wave or ZHA device can be made to work with Hubitat (or ST). Most Z-Wave devivces will work with HASS, though for ones it doesn’t “know” about support may be a bit generic and you’ll have to do some workarounds to get them to behave how you want (e.g., I think the Monoprice-style motion sensors report “8” for “burglar sensor” on motion, rather than changing what HASS calls a “binary sensor” to on/active/etc., which you can work around with HASS templating or just use the 8 value itself if you don’t need to be consistent with better supported binary sensors). With ZigBee devices, you’re pretty much out of luck if the underlying library that HASS uses for ZHA support (bellows, if you’re using the HUSBZB-1) doesn’t “know” about it. Hubitat can work with either of these devices generically if the device works like that, or you can import a custom driver.
