Was just adding a device which has energy meter and a socket but in HE it only gives the ON/OFF state. Is it possible that a device can be made with energy metering in as well?
Which device?
This recent thread is directly related to your request:
Its the Legrand zigbee Arteor with Netatmo 2 Gang Connected Sockets connected to its hub then brought in via Home kit via the parent device.
Not that it matters as Homekit is a bit like matter in that any device has standards that it becomes when its a homekit device.
No the opposite, that's indirectly. That is HE devices exposed to Apple home or whatever IOs uses.
Im asking for a external device that is brought into HE via built-in Homekit integration, to enable the feature in the driver if its possible.
The link aaiyar sent is correct. the homekit protocol does not support power metering yet. The home app just got power metering for matter protocol devices. homekit devices did not get such love. so In theory if you had a hub that translated the Zigbee devices into matter devices with all the metering clusters, the home app might be able to see the metering.
I typically do not like posting AI responses, but in this case Google did a very good job of summarizing the current state of the HomeKit Accessory Protocol (HAP) with respect to energy monitoring devices.
FWIW - AI response below
Thus, I truly doubt that Hubitat will spend any time added support for custom manufacturer-specific HAP data extensions. Apple has moved on to Matter, which now supports energy monitoring.
Hope this helps clear things up.
While i have to give Apple credit for making a very easy to use and clean ui home automation app… even when you do get power metering devices into the Apple Home app, it does not allow for automations based on energy consumption metrics. Users can view real time energy data, but automation options, and historical data are very limited at this time.
