C8 went offline and could not be found

My c8 connected wirelessly, went offline. Could not be found using find my hub. Tried plugging in to Ethernet and nothing. Had to turn power off, waited 30 seconds or so and turned back on. It booted up and all looks ok. Any guess on what happened?

Can Ethernet be plugged in when hub is on or does it need to be shut down first?

Usually this is due to an ip address change, if the router or an AP rebooted, or the hub rebooted.

Do you have an IP reservation on your router/AP so the hub stays on a fixed address?

Ip is fixed, router did not reboot. I have a Fingbox which notified me the C8 had gone offline. When I went to check it was totally unreachable, green light was on. Find my hub did not see it. Router was showing it as offline. It is 4’ from the router.
Hub is on 2.3.5.105

Just as an aside, I'd move it farther from the router on general principles...HE recommends 6' away, I'd do more to reduce any potential for Wi-Fi/Zigbee interference.

Sorry - to be clear, set on router or on hub?

If this happens again maybe run an IP scan and see if you find the hub loitering at another IP address somehow.

Ethernet can be plugged in any time, hub doesn't need to be off. Of course if you plug in Ethernet that will get the hub a different IP than Wi-Fi. I believe Ethernet takes precendence over Wi-Fi and the hub will default to connecting over Ethernet when connected. If you have Ethernet at the hub location that is greatly preferred.

Oh and you should update to 2.3.5.113...released yesterday.

Thank you for your help.

Hub IP is set in router.
Prior to this episode, hub has been fine and all working great.
Will update firmware and then try connecting Ethernet cable.
Will need to sort out connection to router since the wireless is a different MAC address from the wired connection.

Sounds good. I keep IP reservations for both hub Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections (and for other devices like Rasbperry pi's) just in case I need change from one to the other temporarily. If you can get the hub on Ethernet and keep it away from your router that's a win/win. Difference for me is Wi-Fi is should work technology, while Ethernet is always works.

Update:
I have plugged in the Ethernet cable, updated the FW to most recent, set reservation in router for the wired connection. All seems to be working as it should.
