C8 Pro - fail to setup

I just purchased the C8 Pro, I have been using the C7 and wanted to upgrade.

I did research and tried all suggestions, I still can't setup the unit.

Things I tried:

  1. I plugged it in, and tried to find myNewHubitat wifi SSID, it couldn't find it no matter how long I waited.
  2. Replugged the power, same thing.
  3. Did the 7 second network reset button, waited for boot up again. My phone saw the SSID, but it didn't pop up the wifi selection screen after connected to it. Then I tried the manually going to http://172.16.1.1/. It tries to load but eventually fail.
  4. Tried 3) a few more times, eventually http://172.16.1.1/ loads the wifi screen. Once I entered ssid and pwd, it errored out with something attach to the end of URL like "badDatabase" or something like that.
  5. I thought maybe Wifi was bad, so I tried Wired. Reset it again with Wired connection, I could see the unit mac address in my router but with 0 byte down/up activity. I couldn't find it in https://findmyhub.hubitat.com/.
  6. Reboot/reset few more times, different locations, unplugged my C7.

Nothing works. Throughout each attempt, https://findmyhub.hubitat.com/ can't find the device. I tried using mac address, no luck.

Is it just a bad unit?
How should I start a replacement?

Use an ethernet cable.

Can you try connecting to MyNewHubitat, going to http://172.16.1.1/brokenDatabase endpoint and clicking Soft Reset hub now buttons?

The hub should reboot, cycle through the blue light -> green light LED sequence. Once there's a green light, you should be able to connect to MyNewHubitat WiFi access point and proceed with the normal setup routine.

We'll have a permanent fix for this shortly, and we're sorry about the poor initial experience.

After connecting to MyNewHubitat, going to http://172.16.1.1/brokenDatabase shows the wifi connection screen only.

I tried it many times. Router can see it, but I can't connect to it, hubitat can't find it.
0 byte activity

You ever get resolution to this? I have a new (received yesterday) C8 Pro hub that I'm trying to get to work and nothing is working...

@bobbyD

Describe what you have done/tried. W/out that info very difficult to help you.

To add to @danabw's question, can you clarify:

  1. How is the new C-8 Pro connected to your router?
  2. What is the color of the hub's LED?
  3. Does the hub show up as being connected in the router? Is is assigned an IP address by the router?
  4. If you are unable to connect to the hub platform (port 80), have you tried the diagnostic port (port 8081)?

I spoke too soon. PEBKAC. When connecting to ethernet I was able to get things going.

I will point out that wi-fi didn't work on multiple devices (MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and iPhone 17).

When I was trying the LED was blinking between green and red (tho it seemed to only turn red when I tried to access the device...??).

Now reading the How To Migrate documentation and I'm nervous!!:crossed_fingers:t2:

Take your time, read the migration instructions & give yourself time to absorb, don't take shortcuts. My migrations (several over the past couple years) have all been uneventful.

Yeah, I'm trying to do it while working and that's not a good idea. I have done one in the past but I don't remember so many instructions!

Thanks for your words of encouragement! :rat:

Successful migration completed!! :tada:

Notes:

  • The migration status webpage on my laptop got stuck (just spinner).
    • Went to mobile device and all was good.
    • Refreshed laptop and everything came up golden.
  • The C8 Pro seems, on my system, 3x to 4x faster loading in the mobile app and maybe 1.5 - 2x faster executing commands various ways (on device, via Alexa, cloud endpoint, etc).

Stoked.

Now I need to redo all my rules that look like spaghetti code... :joy:

Thanks,
Hubirat :rat:

Great to hear...the migration process is pretty reliable unless something unusual comes up, or PEBCAK issues arise.

Yeah, the speed increase from the C8-Pro is pretty cool, nice part of the upgrade (along w/the big memory bump).

Enjoy weeding your rules...we'll see you in six or seven months when you're done.
