C8 on WIFI Won't reconnect after internet outage

I know this has been addressed before, but I still don't see a solution.

I have a friends C8 on WIFI. Everytime his Internet goes down, which is quite often, the C8 will not reconnect to the network when the internet comes back up. He has to power the hub down to get it to reconnect.

What’s the gateway (router) device he’s using with his ISP?

He has a DSL modem in bridge mode to a separate TP-Link router. The router or WIFI never goes down. Other devices in the house still remain, or can connect to the WIFI.

If the WIFI is still up then the hub should still remain connected. Can't do a reboot of the hub since it has no network connection. Only solution is to unplug.

EDIT: Wish there was a way to do a reboot without the IP, something internal to the hub itself. Then could make a rule to reboot if necessary.

How is the hub configured to obtain it's IP address? Static, DHCP or Reserved DHCP.

I don't know if the Hubitat does this, but some IOT devices will consider themselves disconnected from the LAN when Internet access is lost. This will cause them to try and re-establish a Wi-Fi connection. If the hub is configured for DHCP, it may still be on the network using a different IP.

Have you scanned the network to verify if the hub is using a different IP?

Perhaps for diagnostic purposes, you should configure a Static IP. I would also use a public DNS server, like 8.8.8.8, rather than the router's IP, or the ISPs DNS server.

Reserved IP in the router.

EDIT: Can't do a static IP on WIFI

You can, just disconnect ethernet. If you set static on the hub itself it will carry to wifi.

Just going by what it says..

Static IP/DHCP configuration is for built in Ethernet port only . Wi-Fi connection always uses DHCP.

Ahh My bad, didn't notice that.

Where he lives his internet options are limited. His dsl is only a 15 meg system as that is all that’s available. It appears that US Cellular home internet might be available. Problem is trying to verify signal strength without spending money on the equipment. But I’m working on it. If that will work out we can relocate the modem and router where we can put the hub close enough to use Ethernet connection. That will probably solve the issue.
