C8 is functioning but I can't connect to it to add devices

I can control existing devices from my tablet, but I can't "connect" to add devices. I get a "connection timed out" error. I can see the hub in my network console. My tablet will even give me hub details, but I can't connect to it. Hardware version C-8; Platform version 2.3.5.152.

Try connecting to the diagnostic tool

The connection times out when I try the diagnostic tool.

You can pull power for 10 seconds and plug back to bring it back.
Usually when the UI and Diagnostics are unreachable something network related is going on.
Most common issue is if you have Jumbo Frames enabled anywhere on your LAN.

Or if you are connected via Wifi, an automatic Wifi Optimization (changing channels) is known to cause issues.

Thanks jpt10181. Still no luck. I have rebooted the router and power cycled the HE. The hub is connected via Ethernet. Jumbo frames are NOT enabled. It seems really odd to me that when I use the app on my tablet I can toggle switches on and off, yet I can't "connect" to the hub. Obviously, there is a valid connection of some type or I wouldn't be able to turn things on or off.

Have you tried using http://findmyhub.hubitat.com/ and the advanced discovery to make sure you are using the right IP? Was not clear how you are trying to connect exactly and how you know what IP to use.

Interestingly enough, when I follow the link you provided, it times out also. As far as the IP is concerned, I got it from two sources. Source 1 was the connected users list from my router's console. Source 2 was the Hubitat registered hubs page. FYI, when I try to simply ping the hub from chrome, the connection times out. At this point I don't know whether to hard reset the hub, delete my account and start over or go out the garage, get my 5 lb. engineer's hammer and perform an engineering hard reset on the hub and then go back to smart things.

Can you describe your network setup?

  1. Make/model of: Modem, router, firewall, switches
  2. Network topology and segmentation

aaiyar: Modem is an ARRIS SURFboard SB6141. Router is a Unify UDM with 4 ports. There are 4 networks configured on the system, one primary and three "guest" systems. Two of the "guest systems are used for home automation/security. UDM Port 4 is connected to a Unify USW flex mini switch at my desk. Port 2 on the flex mini is my computer. This port is configured to allow connection to any of the 4 networks, currently using the same network as the Hubitat. Flex mini Port 3 connected to the Hubitat, this port is restricted to one of the automation networks. Flex mini Port 4 is connected to the hub for my camera system. It is restricted to the same automation network as the Hubitat.
My existing Smart things setup runs on the same network that the hubitat is connected to, through a different port and switch, and it functions well, except for cloud based speed issues. I would send a snip that shows part of the network topology, but I don't see a way to attach an image.

Thanks for trying to help.

The actual hubitat.com site times out? Or it shows your hub and the "Connect" button times out?

The site is a public site, so that itself should be working.

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: s3-website.us-east-2.amazonaws.com
Address: 52.219.104.75
Aliases: findmyhub.hubitat.com
          find.hubitat.com.s3-website.us-east-2.amazonaws.com

How do you ping from chrome (browser)? Unless you mean you are using a system with Chrome OS?

The next thing I would suggest is to put both the PC and Hubitat hub on the same network and see if they can talk to each other. Definitely sounds like some sort of networking issue.

Simplify your network topology. Get things working. And then add your layers of complexity.

Make sure the tablet and hub are on the same VLAN. Occasionally my hub will be unresponsive until I realize my phone switched WiFi networks.

1st off, sorry the topic has been inactive for a while - we had back to back visitors from out of town. Thanks to all for your help. In response to the previous comments, I have been very careful to make sure the desktop, the tablet and the Hubitat are all on the same network. Yesterday I decided to take the brute force approach and created a new network just for the Hubitat. The only things on this network are the router, three managed switches, a WAP, the Hubitat , my desktop and a tablet. After a few minutes of making sure all the network devices were working and updating the managed switches, everything worked as it should. I can connect to the Hubitat anytime I want with either the tablet or the desktop. All I have to is make sure they are on the Hubitat's network. So, apparently my issue was caused by something in the settings for my home automation network. My next step is to find the differences in the network settings between the dedicated Hubitat network and the home automation network. I don't want to leave my system as it is. The Hubitat network was the 5th network on my system. Unifi's system limits me to 4 networks per AP, so I had to install an additional WAP to provide connectivity for my tablet. At least the system works now. I have a bucket-full of other things to do, so it may be a few days before get back to this. Thanks to everyone for your help. I'll update this when I have more time and more info.
