C7 hub stuck at initialization, fw .153

I tried researching and doing diagnostics myself but after failing multiple times I'm now at a standstill, would appreciate any help.

I was originally on 2.2.4.139 and everything was fine (for many months). Updated to .153 yesterday and my Honeywell T6 ZWave Thermostat stopped working (the thermostat stopped taking any command from the device page).

I then started troubleshooting in the following way:

  1. Rebooted the hub, thermostat still unresponsive. Restored to .139 firmware that it was originally on, thermostat still unresponsive.
  2. Did a soft reset via IP:8081, restored from a previous backup.
  3. Hub now stuck at "initializing up at 25%" during startup.
  4. Tried step 2 all over again, still stuck at initializing hub at 25%.
  5. Unplugged power to the hub, waited 10 min, reconnect power, still stuck at initializing hub at 25%.
  6. While my 3 year old screams in the background and wife requesting dishes be cleaned, out of pure frustration, I did a soft reset again, restoring to Dec 1 backup, still stuck. Soft reset and restored to Nov 30 backup, still stuck. Soft reset and restored to Nov 29 backup, it FINALLY boots up. YAY!
  7. Once it boots up I took the risk and tried restoring to Dec 1 backup, it worked (which it shouldn't have, since that was the first one I tried during step 6)

The hub is now functionally normally (the thermostat is ok as well) and I'm officially back to square 1 (firmware .139). I'm afraid to update to .153 and get the hub stuck at startup again. What should I do now to update the firmware without having all the above drama? Also, was there anything I could have done better during the troubleshooting process?

TIA.

There have been other issues with .153 on the C5 hubs too. If it was me, I would wait until the next hot fix and skip trying .153 again.

There are fixes being worked on that may be applicable to your issues, as noted by @oldcomputerwiz, sit tight for now.

And of course, continue to take a backup before you update again.

and clean the dishes. That’s a priority.

I remember those days. Kinda miss those young years. But man, when you have kids old enough to go to the store for you, that's pretty darn nice.

Thanks @oldcomputerwiz @danabw , will wait as suggested.

No doubt. Things can get escalated quickly otherwise

2.2.4.156 has changes to address this issue. I've had several reports of successful update to 156 from people who experienced a stuck update to 153.
