C-9 on the way?

Good move - I don't have to bother checking free memory any more since upgrading.

I just checked my e mails - mine was ordered 3PM April 14th, delivered 9AM April 16th. You wouldn't even get service that fast from Vesternet in the UK

WOW. That is quick.

You're not wrong there.
I was surprised they didn't move on their £199 price.

The way I have looked at upgrades for decades: Why renovate the kitchen or bathroom or flooring just before selling the house? Renovate a few years before and ENJOY the upgrades. There will be some value on sale, never the full amount anyway. The real value is using and enjoying it.

Same with the C8P. There isn't a C9 on the way. Get the C8P now and enjoy the features (with new ones coming out all the time) for a couple of years.

Yes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". If you are completely happy with the C8, C7, or C5 and it does what you want, stick with it. But don't hold back upgrading just because you're hoping for a new version. This isn't a smart phone or computer or other electronic device that has a set or predictable upgrade cycle.

I'd imagine Hubitat looks at this the other way around. They start from what the market will bear for a home automation hub, especially since they most likely don't want to maintain multiple hardware tiers. That price sets a ceiling on what they can afford to build and support each unit for. The question then becomes: how much new value can we fit inside that envelope? If the answer isn't enough to clearly beat the current hub, they don't design a new one.

Reason why they should have a base model, and then have USB-C or even better, network attached accessories (thread radio, IR module, BLE, etc.) that can be added to the base hub a bit like using hub mesh between multiple hubs, now it would mesh accessories to the main hub.

This gives the base hardware a longer lifespan and lower base price point as time goes on even when new tech comes out, Also gives them a new revenue stream without spending engineering time making a new hub. People upgrade as they need this new tech and it hurts less the end user's wallet to get a few accessories than changing the hub all together when the one they have is perfectly fine. Also less e-waist in the landfills.

New slogan, Hubitat, the green hub that grows with you.

I'm starting a rumor that the C-9 is going to include provisions for local voice recognition with a Hubitat satellite microphone/speaker device.

(Warning and disclaimer - I have no connection with Hubitat or any knowledge of current or future product development. I totally just made this up moments ago.)
