C-7 to C-8 Pro migration now z-wave is not working

I purchased a new C-8 Pro hub to replace a C-7. I used HubProtect to backup the C-7 and restore to the C-8 Pro. All of the zigbee devices are working but none of the Z-Wave devices are working.

Both devices are running 2.4.1.157.

Things I have verified and tried:

  • Using supplied power block and usb c cable
  • 1 minute off to reset Z-Wave radio
  • Rebuild database
  • Multiple soft and hard reboots
  • Upgrade to ZWaveJS
  • Upgrade to 2.4.1.162

The Z-Wave details page shows Z-Wave is enabled, the correct region, but no entries exist in the node list or device graph. The Z-Wave Topology screen only shows device 01.

I have tried excluding existing devices and running inclusion to add them back in but they time out with the message: Found a Z-Wave device, initializing...

Any suggestions on what else I can do?

Make sure you are switched back to legacy Zwave (ZIP)

Try these endpoints

Do this first and reboot once it says it is already installed
http://YOUR.HUB.IP/hub/advanced/installZipgateway718 take a minute, and may need to run more than once, until you get already installed message.

Then these
http://YOUR.HUB.IP/hub/zwave/healthStatus - reports true or false
http://YOUR.HUB.IP/hub/zwaveVersion - reports zwave version or will time out if radio is offline

Report back on results.

If Radio is still offline then do a warranty claim Warranty – Hubitat Support

I started with the legacy Zwave and only upgraded to ZwaveJS when I couldn't get anything to work.

I followed your instructions to downgrade back to legacy ZWave:

healthStatus is true

zwaveVersion:

VersionReport(zWaveLibraryType:7, zWaveProtocolVersion:7, zWaveProtocolSubVersion:18, firmware0Version:7, firmware0SubVersion:18, hardwareVersion:1, firmwareTargets:1, targetVersions:[[target:1, version:7, subVersion:18]])

I don't even get the found device on the legacy zwave when I try to run inclusion now.

I assume the install ZIP Gateway endpoint said it was already installed?

Do you still have the migrated hub database on there or have you done a reset?
If so, I would do at least a soft reset to clear out all the apps and configurations. To eliminate any of that as a possible issue.

Then I would try just excluding a spare device first, even if not paired to the hub you should get a message saying "unknown device excluded", this is a super basic test of the zwave radio. Would not suggest trying to exclude a device paired to the old hub and still working, because the exclude will reset it and disconnect it from the hub.

Also make sure you are doing a full shut down and unplug for 30 seconds in case any prior fiddling has jammed the radio.

Yes after I used the installZipgateway718 the second time it reported that it was already installed.

I have not done a reset because all of my zigbee devices and rules are working fine.

I have a new device arriving tomorrow that I will test this with.

I just did this again and factory reset the test device and still can't get it to connect. I'll try again tomorrow with the brand new device.

try swapping the two antennas .. it is possible one is bad?

Did you try just doing the migration again? Maybe the Z wave radio just did not take the restore for some reason.

No dice. Thanks for the suggestion.

H*ll yeah! Re-executing the migration fixed it! You're the boss.

I have the exact same problem, and have tried the same remedies, but no luck.

So does re-executing the migration require going back to the C-7 and doing another backup? Because I tried doing a fresh restore on the C-8 Pro and that didn't solve the problem.

No you should not need to do a new backup.

Did you do all this up above? C-7 to C-8 Pro migration now z-wave is not working - #2 by jtp10181

What are results of endpoints?

I did. This is what I got:

VersionReport(zWaveLibraryType:7, zWaveProtocolVersion:7, zWaveProtocolSubVersion:18, firmware0Version:7, firmware0SubVersion:18, hardwareVersion:1, firmwareTargets:1, targetVersions:[[target:1, version:7, subVersion:18]])

Run the install ZIP endpoint http://YOUR.HUB.IP/hub/advanced/installZipgateway718 until it says it’s already installed. Reboot. Then try to restore the migration backup again.
