C-7 not working

My C-7 stopped working today, my home app says nothing is online. When I try to connect to the hub I get nothing. I tried unplugging it and when it turns on the light goes green after a few minutes. Did my hub go bad? Or am I just doing something wrong? Thank you in advance for the help. @bobbyD

Likely your ip changed. Check your DHCP table to see what it is (find the mac address in the table) from a command line ping hubitat.local and see if you get an IP back

If that doesn't work, download and install Angry IP Scanner and scan your local network.

Ok I'll give that a shot. Only thing that has changed recently is I installed a network switch in my house. But that was a few months ago, this just happened yesterday. I have a few other things to straighten out that just popped up, I will try this as well. Thank you

Well the switch wouldn't have anything to do with it. When you use DHCP the time that ip is issued for is finite. When the lease runs out sometimes it will catch that same ip or it will catch a new one. You should set a DHCP reservation in your router so that your hubitat always uses the same address.

Ok, I will definitely try that. I'll update you later after I mess around with everything. I think the issue stems from I have the switch connected to the modem/router. And instead of my asus wifi router plugged into the switch its plugged directly into the modem/router its causing some issues. The hubitat is plugged into the asus router. I'm going to switch it around and see if this and the other hiccups I'm having are solved.

The way you should have things hooked up... The asus router WAN port should connect to the modem. Do not plug anything else into the modem. Then plug the switch in to lan ports 1-4 (you may plug additional devices into these ports as they are part of the same flat lan).

So I should plug the asus router into the modem/router, then connect the switch off the asus router? Unfortunately I had to get a modem/router combo due to the new cable boxes are wifi. I'm used to just having a modem with the one output and connecting it to the router. I'm kind of getting the feeling the two routers are causing a bit of confusion.

Ok got an update. I hooked the asus wifi router to the network switch, then I connected my desktop pc to the asus router. Was able to get into the settings, but before I even did any sort of changes, the hub started working again. I see on my router settings page lease time, is there a way to make it infinite?

Once you set a DHCP reservation for the MAC address of the hub it will be permanent/"infinite." That's the way to do it, and once you do the hub will always return to the same IP address.

Look for terms like DHCP Reservation or Fixed IP or similar wording in your router's settings. Once you do that you will never "lose" your hub again due to an IP address change.

A quick Google on "Asus DHCP reservation" came up w/this below - there are likely differences in where the feature is found on different Asus router models, but look for the "LAN" option initially...

I'll give that a try, but I was just checking settings and somehow locked myself out of the settings page. Looks like I'll have to do a hard reset of the router, just so I can get access again. It won't let me login to the router, my login and password I made isn't working and neither is the factory password

There is no hard reset. Simply go to yourhubip:8081 and do a restore from before you had a password problem.

I'd first reboot the router, just in case.

Usually hard to lock yourself out if you're just clicking around and didn't actually save anything...hope you can get back in easily.

Looks like he's talking about not being able to get back into his router settings...

Yes that's what happened, I enabled a setting. And when I went to log back in, it's not accepting my login info. Kind of frustrating to be honest, at least for now I got the hub working

That's really odd if you mean you enabled a DHCP reservation for your hub on the router and then couldn't log back into your router, makes no sense...DCHP reservations should have zero impact on your router log in. Glad the hub is up, but obviously you'll have to figure out the router issue...think of it as more fun where you learn new stuff.

If you have 2 routers you're likely going to have conflicts(aka Double NAT), which could shutdown the whole network, unless the 2 routers are on differing subnets. I think Asus default is 192.168.1.1 and your new cable modem router could be the same, causing many issues. I'd suggest getting the IP scanner @rlithgow1 suggested to see what's up. You may have to take your Asus router out of the mix until you get things sorted and work with 1 router at a time. Ideally you want the Asus to handle DHCP, while the modem/router has DHCP disabled or has DHCP on a differing subnet.
I do this with my Fios router, it only gets its address from my PFSense router and Fios router has its DHCP & routing features set to off.

@icoplon , also what @Rxich said can apply. If your cable modem is also a router, Ideally call your cable company and ask them to put their equipment into bridge/passthrough mode and that will avoid any issues on that end.

Update. I got it working. Finally had time to re organize the connections. I have everything running through the network switch and my asus wifi router is in wireless access point mode. Thank you for the help.
