Buying Zigbee in the US and using in Europe?

I am going to the US soon and I was hoping to pick up some Zigbee stuff while there, as it is cheaper.

To my knowledge Zigbee uses the same channel regardless of where in the world you are, so theoretically I could use any US bought devices in Europe ?

I was thinking about getting a Hue hub for my bulbs, but also some other Zigbee devices. I will be travelling in California and Nevada, so do you have any recommendations for physical stores to visit that have a lot of Zigbee stuff available ?

Same frequency yes, so zigbee devices purchased in America should work internationally. However I have read that there are some radio frequency regulations that differ from country to country, and could still make it technically illegal to use a zigbee device purchased in another country. This is an old post in the ST forum, but it’s probably relevant to what you’re asking.

Having said all that, if you’re interested in purchasing zigbee devices from a well-known brick and mortar store, you could try Home Depot or Lowe’s (home improvement/construction stores with smart home sections), or Best Buy (an electronics retailer).

Thank you very much for your response. Sounds interesting about the boosted Zigbee and I am sure it can´t hurt in my house

I do RC drones as well and there we have a similar "problem" where US signal allows for longer range.

I did a quick search on the stores you suggested and only BestBuy has a range of Smartthings (not the only thing I am looking for), but I noticed that they have a major discount on ADT branded stuff. I read somewhere that ADT is going at it alone, but do you think this would work with HE ?

EDIT: Nevermind. I did a search on the forum and it turns out you need a special version of the ST hub for ADT for most of those devices.
