Bond Device - not sure where to look next

I have a bond bridge device with 2 fans on it. The north fan comes on at random times. There are no records in the events or the log files indicating it was ever turned on. I’m not sure where else to look. Any ideas? The bond device is not connected to Alexa, only to Hubitat. Hubitat does share info with Alexa. The voice commands with Alexa will turn the fan on and off as it should. The fan device in Hubitat seems to work fine.

That feels unlikely to me…. I guess the only way to be sure is to look at the timing of both this event in HE and, if you can, noticing the time when the physical fan turns on.

There are some other things worth doing / checking:

  1. Quoting the platform version you are running and the exact Bond integration you are using would be worth mentioning (there is an old Community integration, but I am guessing you are using the built-in one). That said, neither integration has changed for some time I believe

  2. If you are willing to forego Hubitat control for a period of time you could try disabling the fan devices in your Hubitat setup to rule HE in or out as the source of the random activation

  3. Check the In Use By section for the fan devices in HE, checking what automations or other apps, if any, are setup to work with the devices, reviewing these to see if there is anything suspicious in their setup

  4. Try turning on any additional logging on both the HE device and the apps identified above, plus the Bond integration, including any Debug or more detailed logging options

  5. Similar to point number 2, if you are willing to, you could also try turning off the Bond bridge to see if that produces any insights on where the issue is

  6. Try removing the fan from the HE - Alexa integration and see what happens

  7. Are you up-to-date with the firmware on the Bond Bridge? Can’t say that I have any reason to think there is something in this, just a thought…

You mention Alexa. Sometimes for me, when things go off the rails schedule wise with my devices, it is because Alexa is trying to step in and provide some automation/energy savings.

This device is located out on the Lanai and only has 2 fans on it. There is another Bond bridge inside the home with 10 fans on it. I started with the older Bond bridge out on the Lanai that would only run on the Community integration. With the old setup, the north fan would come on randomly maybe once a week. Thinking the old Bond bridge might be the issue, I replaced it with the new model, BD-1000. I also moved to the built in drivers. It made no difference as the north fan would still come on randomly. I can not tell when the fan comes on as there is no entry in any of the logs. I most often see the fan running in the morning, meaning that it came on some time during the night.

I have removed the fan several times from HE, from Bond, and from Alexa. None of which has helped.

Alexa does have hunches turned on but she shows what she changes in the activity file and there is nothing in there about a fan. It could be that she is the problem and just not recording it.

I am going to try this for a couple of weeks and see what happens. I will remove HE and integrate the Bond bridge with Alexa instead. Thanks for all your suggestions.

I just looked at the in use by. The only thing there was the EZ dashboard. I don’t see how that could be an issue but I deleted the entire EZ dashboard just in case. I hated that EZ dashboard anyway.

Rather than removing the fan from Hubitat, I’d remove it from Alexa. My “hunch” is that Alexa is doing things and not reporting it correctly.

It drove me batty as Hubitat would report that I was physically turning off/on things, but it most certainly was not me!

could you have neighbors nearby that have RF controlled fans also?

This is exactly what I was going to suggest. The exact same thing happened to me in the past with a Hunter fan and I never had it integrated into my SmartHome at all.

Interesting thought. I don’t know how far the RF signal would travel, but our neighbors are pretty far away.

with a clear path, it’s about 300-350 feet for 345MHz signal and a bit higher for 433MHz
