@aaiyar, they don’t work well in a he mesh? So the options are to get an aqara hub $50 and then I can’t use the sensors with h.e? Or I can try and find a used h.e elevation and use it for a aqara only mesh and use hub connect? Seems the he would be the better option if I can find about $60 or buy a decon z since I already run a home assistant server and just use h.a to h.e?
The big issue with Aqara sensors is that they do not quite follow the standard Zigbee protocol, so many devices that repeat Zigbee signals reliably might not work for Aqara.
I recently tried to add a couple of Aqara sensors to my Hubitat. They were a water leak sensor and a shock/vibration/acceleration sensor. I had four zigbee 1.2 plugs serving as repeaters. The Aqara devices would not stay connected. I replaced the four older plugs with Zigbee 3.0 plugs using eWeLink technology. I even added a couple of extra for good measure. Now my Aqara devices stay connected to Hubitat.
A lot of people use the Ikea Tradfri' repeaters. The plugs I am using as repeater are these:
LUNTAK Zigbee Smart Plugs That Work with Alexa Google Home ST Amazon Echo Plug, 10A Zigbee Switch Remote Control Your Home Appliances,Timing Smart Outlet Repeater (Hub Required)
I bought a metric monkey ton of Aqara sensors before I found this forum, and they seemed to somehow be less problematic on Smartthings hubs. Tradfri made the Aqaras reliable. Never another problem after that.
I did LOTS of reading (lurking) on here before I bought my Hubitat in April. I've got a few Zigbee switch modules (Moes, Samotech) dotted around but (on the back of researching here) I deliberately bought all Tradfri plugs and a few Tradfri USB repeaters to make up the bones of my mesh.
I bought a handful of cheap Aqara sensors - PIR, contact, temp/humidity.
Not the longest bench-test, but in 2 months they've been rock solid.
Also the Aqara 4 & 6 button switches/scene controllers - a pig to pair but once done they've been really reliable.
I got some Sonoff contact sensors. Whilst they're reliable I'd actually say the Aqara's are a smidge quicker.
Here's where I'm going to open a can of worms...
After my forum research (not lurking... really Guv!!) I bought 3 Hue motion sensors (reliable, long battery life, but mainly due to short cool-down) for use in "high traffic" areas.
The initial Aqara motion sensors were repurposed to other (lower traffic) rooms but I've moved a couple of them back to work as secondary sensors to the Hues. As was the case with the Sonoff sensors, the Aqara's just seem to react a tiny smidge faster.
As mentioned, mine is a pretty short bench-test and YMMV but so far, with a Tradfri orientated mesh I've had no problems.
As far as I know, the Tradfri repeaters work well for both Aqara and standard Zigbee devices.
The reason I mentioned the Luntak Zigbee eWeLink plugs is that they are less expensive than Tradfri. I was reluctant to order the Luntak plugs at first but decided to try them. They work great. Some I am using only as repeaters. Others I am using as smart plugs to control devices. I have one in the basement that is a long way from the hub on the 1st floor, but it is connected with an LQI of 238. The other five range from LQI 251-255. For about $8 each compared to $13 for Tradfri, I think I got a bargain.
BTW: the Luntak plugs are now sold out on Amazon. I got them with one day delivery.
Agreed. After I removed my Smarththings and Centralite plugs and replaced them with Zigbee 3,0 plugs, everything has been fine with my Aqara devices. I have not tempted fate by reconnecting one of the older plugs.
I think the Iris plugs were made by Centralite. If that is the case, they do not work with Aqara. I liked the Centralite plugs because the reported energy use and some went up to 15 amps. I have not been able to find a Zigbee 3.0 plug capable of 15 amps that reports power.
The Sinope' plug might work, but I am not sure. It does handle 15 amps. It is supposed to have power monitoring, but one review said the power monitoring did not work with Smartthings, so I am not sure it will work with Hubitat.
Does Sinope' work as a repeater for Aqara? According to the Sinope'
website, the device is ZHA 1.2, so it might not be any better than the Centralite plugs.
I got one of the Zooz Z-Wave plugs to monitor my sump pump. Since it is Z-wave, I knew it would not mess up the Zigbee mesh for the Aqara devices.
No, not directly. You can do things like linking the Aqara hub to node-Red or Home Assistant, and then bring the sensors into Hubitat via integrations with Node-Red and Home Assistant.
