Best start with Unifi gear

Found the issue. Protect was still running on the UDMP. I needed to review some footage before I shut it down.

Even though the IP address was changed to the new UNVR, HE was only receiving the health status events. None of the motion events were working. As soon as I shutdown the old Protect the events started flowing again. I didn't even have to reload any resources, they just started showing up again.

So a bit of a silly issue but at least not a huge migration nightmare.

Finally, DHCP reservation manager! Haven't tried it yet, but looking forward to it...

Really? They just added this now??
The edgerouter 4 has always had this. I just expected all their routers to have it.

I think it’s more of a new UI for managing those features that have all existed already.

Yeah I had the same capability on my ER 12 as well.

You could do all this stuff on the unifi gear but it wasn't all brought together in one location. That's what this change is about, giving you one place to go to manage all those settings.

Fixed it for you.

Why do they refuse to use the terms reserved/reservation...? :person_shrugging:

LOL...thank you for the update! Also baffles me. :man_shrugging:

@danabw did you ever get the Crucial drive working for you UCG? I curious because I want to go down the rabbit hole and get whatever card you got working? Thanks

No updates, unfortunately. As I noted earlier we have family visitors and I promised my wife I will not, as she says, "Dork around with any of that stuff" while her family is visiting.

I will dive back into it early next week.

It does seem like this is a me problem and not a general problem, as multiple other people report using that drive successfully.

Thanks for the info. I had one laying around and try, but I couldn't get it work also.

Ah, that's unfortunate. IIRC you and I are the only ones I've read about having problems with the Crucial P3 Plus. Thanks for the info.

The latest Network app 9.2.87 has been released/GA so everyone should be able to get it soon. Looks like they are doing a slow roll out as I had to switch to EA to get the update.

Looking forward to any comments on the new release, particularly the new DHCP Manager. I won't be playimg with it until next week so I'm kinda jealous...

It's nothing special. I've had it in EA for a while. To be honest, I forget it is even there. It's basically a list of devices that have been assigned IP addresses. It does not allow you to add/remove DHCP reservations (fixed IP addresses per Ubiquiti) directly. You can click on a device in the list and it will bring up its properties on the right so you can make changes.

I'm a Ubiquiti power user and I absolutely hate the way they do certain things. Their DHCP implementation is the worst and goes beyond what I consider normal practices for it.

It imports now too, not as full featured as the export:

"Import a CSV file with four ordered columns: MAC Address, IP Address, and optionally Hostname and Local DNS Record. Imported leases are applied to all networks."

It is interesting. It is certainly a improvement over what was already there. From the client page you have the option to open the DHCP Manager which seems to give you a similar list of all of your clients but focused on DHCP. This gives you some decent info that you can view now in a easier sortable method specific to DHCP. How useful that is may be limited though. When you click on a device you get the typical slide out menu for the device that allows you to set your Fixed IP among other things. It is just like what you would get from the normal Client view screen.

I think the big functional improvement would be being able to see all of the DHCP settings at once and then there are the import/export links in the upper right corner. Thick could be good when setting stuff up for the first time. That could of been great when I first got the UCG-Max as I could of taken a formatted list of Mac Addresses and IP's and imported everything in one swoop.

Still nothing earth shattering. This is only worthwhile if you are possibly coming from another DHCP server where you can export this info to then be imported into UniFi. Microsoft has had this built into Windows Server DHCP for ages, as have most high end DHCP servers. Day to day, it provides little value, in my opinion.

Does it show devices that aren't active?
I remember having a bitch of a time removing a fixed IP for a device that didn't make the switchover when I started with Unifi.
After manually entering the MAC to fixed IP info during setup, but not actually using the device with the system, to remove the IP assignment involved switching to the Classic/Legacy User Interface and what seemed like a whole bunch of f@rting around.

Yep, below you can see the items you can filter on.

Agree. But I am happy to have one place to go to see all current reservations and modify/add reservations on one screen. So it's better than before, albeit that's is kind of damning faint praise.

...and the crowd cheers:

"Fairly well done, Ubiquiti!"
