He’s not wrong - basically any ac to dc converter makes the issue go away, so my hubs are fine.
As far as whether it’s fine with bulbs and plugs, I don’t know, but I do know it would be cheaper to replace them all when I leave then pay an electrican to fix someone else’s problem (and I did tell the landlord and he’s shown no interest in fixing it himself)
As for why I don’t wanna use hue - firstly, I’d just prefer smart switches, and secondly, Hubitats native hue integration has a polling rate to the hue hub of one minute which isn’t ideal. But I’ll be using hue for now anyway
Also I currently have 30 odd bulbs, 6(?) plugs and a smart thermostat (Plus a bunch of battery devices that obviously aren’t affected)
In general, where possible, I do prefer to use built in integrations. The people maintaining the community ones could, in theory, stop maintaining them at any point, where I feel built in ones are far more likely to be maintained for longer.
That being said, that’s “in general” and there are always exceptions, so that is my plan at the moment.
The nice thing about open-source is that if someone decides to stop maintaining their thing and enough people rely on it, someone else is likely to step up. Look at HPM, for example.
I was thinking of buying 20 of these THIRDREALIT bulbs. I read that they are all repeaters. I also read that zigbee can have issues with too man repeaters. The 20 bulbs will be within 4' of each other and about 20' from the hub. the access 2.4g access point is on channel 1 and 6. i was planning on using channel 24 for the zigbee.
can anyone tell me if im even close to doing this correct or if it will just be a mess.
Sengled Zigbee bulbs are NOT Zigbee repeaters, by design. This allows them to be turned off by a wall switch without breaking the rest of the Zigbee mesh network. Once turned off by a wall switch, that switch has to be turned back on in order for these bulbs to be controlled by a home automation hub, like Hubitat.
The downside of Sengled Zigbee bulbs NOT being Zigbee repeaters is that you will need other mains-powered Zigbee devices to act as Zigbee repeaters to support and strengthen the Zigbee mesh network.
I simply use a Philips Hue bridge and genuine Philips Hue bulbs attached to it for my table and floor lamps. This has been 100% reliable for years now. I use Lutron Caseta for all of my in-wall switches, dimmers, and fan controllers (AC motor fans only!) Like Hue, Caseta has been 100% reliable as well. Both Philips Hue and Lutron Caseta are on the pricier side, but there is something to be said for reliability!
If so, those should work. I would recommend buying a 4-pack and trying them out, before buying the other 16 bulbs. Also, please make sure that these bulbs are powered on at all times. Since they are Zigbee repeaters, if users turn off a wall switch or a table lamp switch, the Zigbee devices that were using those bulbs as repeaters will struggle to find a new patch back to the HE hub. This is why most folks recommend smart in-wall switches/dimmers for light fixtures that are controlled by switches.
I bough one of these bulbs. It seems to work but there are some issues. If i control the bulb from hubitat everything works as expected. If i HomeKit enable it the response is sluggish and doesn't represent the color chosen in home app. I don't know if the issue is the bulb or homekit or the hubitat HomeKit integration.
