The Hue bulbs I tested (P45 LWU001) work with the inbuilt Hubitat driver "Generic Zigbee Bulb". No Hue hub needed.
I used the "IKEA Dimmable light" driver just to set the "Power On behaviour" preference (that is saved in the bulbs), although I believe that the "IKEA Dimmable light" can also control them (on/off/level), but must folks prefer the driver provided by Hubitat.
Wonderful. Thanks for letting me know. Is there not the possibility to control on /off outside of the hub with the Hue lights. I need to get 17 downlights so trying to find those that work directly with the hub and also not as expensive as Hue (I will use Hue for one internal light only). If you have any recommendation that would be amazing.
I assume Ikea do not need a separate hub, just Hubitat?
Both IKEA Tradfri and HUE newer model bulbs work directly with Hubitat, no other hub required. I use IKEA as they are cheaper and I can quickly find replacements. I don't use an IKEA or Hue hub, just Hubitat alone (C-7).
Some folks prefer to use the Hue or IKEA hubs, in order to keep the lights out of the Hubitat Zigbee network, because older models were not very good repeaters. This is not the case anymore with newer models, I find that these make great repeaters, but YMMV.
Just checking that you have the hub enable for Matter? I see that mine is not enabled for matter. I assume there is no downside to enabling this. Must have just been a factory setting.
I'll get the Ikea bulbs, keep matter disabled and let you know how I get on. I have a hue bulb also, for internal use, so will be a good test of both. The IKEA bulbs are so much cheaper so hope they work.
Hi I have not had much luck with pairing either the Philips Hue (indoor) and the Ikea (outdoor) lights. Is there any trick I need to know? I do have them both on the same wifi / band connection. I have both 5G and 2.4 G wifi bands and I also have 2 internet points so 4 in total which can make life a bit challenging to connect. That said my phone was on the same band 2.4 as the hub though my simple test to pair, either of them, did not work.
Hi Thanks for this. I have been using the pairing at the add device stage. FYI I have multiple other devices added ie. smart switches.
I only mentioned wifi as when I was trying to add a device, should my phone be on say 5g wifi connection vs the 2.4g connection, an error message was displayed to tell me to be on the same wifi that the hub is on.
I haven't tried to pair bulbs before and both seem to be problematic. I wondered if anyone had experience with this. Is there something I need to do to put them in pairing mode. THe instructions were silent on this i.e they do not flash or give any indication that they are available to be paired. The pairing process on the app seems to execute properly though it does not pick them up properly. It does pick up the Philips hue but pairs with no content i.e no on / off etc and is set up saying ' light is not supported'.
I’m becoming a big fan of the Nanoleaf Essentials RGB matter bulbs. The inital release were matter over thread, but the last batch I purchased were matter over WIfi. I have a bunch of sengled and sylvania Zigbee bulbs in the closet that I’ve replaced with them.
