Basic questions setting up HE

I'm converting from a mostly simple 5yr old zigabee iris setup to modern zwave plus HE config.

Things I need help understanding:

  • I'm pairing zwave plus devices by putting HE in discovery mode, powering up the new devices, moving the devices near the hub, and pressing the device reset button. However, I've read that there is a more secure way to pair involving typing in a key/identifier for AES encryption instead? Can anyone explain how to do this with HE?

  • I have multiple zooz and aotec multisensor devices (mostly motion with temp/humidity/brightness readings) but the device details page does not show the other sensor data (temp/humidity) just the motion sensor status. How do I get this info displayed?
-I'd like to create separate dashboards for types of data...e.g. all temp readings regardless of device, all humidity readings regardless of devices,.. I don't see an easy way to do this.
-Some of the motions sensors have two time thresholds... normally 15 and 30 seconds. I'm trying to understand what these do.. do not send multiple alerts within 15 seconds, wait 30 seconds from last report before reporting no motion?

  • Lastly, some devices seem to be stuck saying they will send configuration commands on next device sync...but these commands never seem to run despite the device seeming to be active/connected.

These are all simple questions but I'm just getting started with an entirely new automation universe....I hope I can come up to speed quickly. I've never used smart things before, just IRIS.

...secure way to pair involving typing in a key/identifier for AES encryption instead?

According to the folks at HE you really do not want to pair securely anything other than Locks and other boundary kind of devices. It can affect performance apparently. It was one of the things support told me to check when I was having some issues a while ago.

I have multiple zooz and aotec multisensor devices..

I have 6 or so multisensor 6's and they report temp/humidity. I am using @csteele's driver but the generic one works as well.

I'd like to create separate dashboards..

I don't understand you can easily do this under dashboards and when adding a device change the template to whatever and it will allow you to select what you want..

Not sure what the time thresholds do exactly but I keep them minimized on my Aeotecs as I have them under USB Power. I think you can tweak them to save battery power based on your use-case.

Create a Dashboard and select the devices. When you add a tile, pick the device and for the Template, pick Attribute. A third field pops up and you add the precisely named attribute. Back on the Device Page, right side, you'll see the list of attributes:

Current States

DriverAuthor : cSteele
DriverStatus : Current
DriverUpdate : N/A
DriverVersion : 1.6.1
acceleration : inactive
battery : 100
contact : closed
humidity : 33
illuminance : 0
motion : inactive
powerSource : dc
temperature : 71.0
ultravioletIndex : 0

Copy paste the word on the left of the colon, into the attribute name field and click the green button. [add or update]

Rinse, repeat.

Thank you all for your replies and help. I did get the dashboards mostly working and temperature and illumination readings reporting properly on the aotec tri-sensor devices. The tri-sensors seem quite responsive, alhough perhaps not as fast as the older iris zigabee motion sensors.

As for secure pairing, does this mean I should set the 'all secure' attribute on the zwave main page to disabled, and just leave 'locks secure' enabled?

I'm not getting any battery status info on the aotec trisensor and the zooz 4-in-1 sensors seem to be behaving erratically. Is this expected?

Amazon reviews of the trisensor seem more positive than the aotec 6-in-1, but I assume they are relatively similar in performance?

Locks and anything else that self designates as "barrier device" MUST use the secure Join, so you'd want that on. What that means is, for ease-of-use to new users, the Hub will build the best Mesh it knows how to. (Yea, controversy on how well, but that's a different topic  )

Don't know.... maybe your erratic and my erratic aren't the same. What I have seen is battery reports that go UP. 62%, 61%, 63%, 60%. It's always fluttering around the same general downward tren but occasionally does an UP. I've written it off as temperature related.

I almost bought a Tri-Sensor... but then decided 12 of the Multisensor 6 was enough.

This is pretty awesome, but from what i can see you can only select 1 attribute, is there a simple way to stack them ?
Thanks~
