Bad C5 Hub?

I have the old c5 hub and am at a loss on whats happening. Everything overall was working fine for the most part then I went on vacation (april). I changed some of my lighting rules in webcore to have the lights go off and on sporadically for the cats and to make it look like we were home. upon returning home i changed my rules back. After that, everything didnt work as good and I kind of have lived with it until recently so i reset the zigbee radios and tried adding a sengled bulb and two ikea repeaters and one iris motion. Only the bulb would pair and even at that, i had horrible lag for it showing on/off in the devices menu (actual bulb worked fine tho). So i did a soft reset now and same thing. Ive tried for two days to get one of the ikea outlets to pair with no luck. Motion still wont pair. Bulb pairs but something is not right. Suggestions?

Well the sengled bulbs don't repeat so they need your repeaters. Change your zigbee channel to 15 or 20. Then ensure that you factory reset all your other devices (they will go back to their old slots).

Any new wifi equipment in the area? Neighbors have a new wifi router? Is your hub close to your wifi router? One possibility is there is interference from the 2.4Ghz network.

You did a soft reset, but did you pull the power cord at the wall, wait 20 minutes, and plug the hub back in? That will initiate panic mode where the devices will try to get a new route home when you plug the hub back in.

No new devices. not sure about neighbors but dont think so. hub is near the router like it always was although i did rearrange the hub and router where there at. maybe thats it. I didnt pull power either but i will try and try moving router and hub around.

What zigbee Chanel is the hub using?

changed to 15 and unpowered for over twent minutes. still cant get anything to pair except the bulb. moved the router farther away from the hub too.

ok, i did another soft reset and was able to pair my 3 ikea repeater outlets. the thing i did different is initiate pairing first then hit the zigbee pairing in my hub. The directions hubitat says to do this in reverse which wasnt working. Maybe this needs to be changed.

somethings goofy with ch 20. i was on 15, paired them then changed back to 20. the hubitat page didnt update when i turned them off and on. Changed back to 15 and the instantly showed on my hub as off or on. I always used 20 so not sure what happened...

Hardly surprising. It takes devices up to 24 hours to change channels in response to the coordinator changing channels. Some devices need to be reset and re-paired when the coordinator changes channels.

didnt know that but will keep that in mind. origionalyl i never changed from ch 20 so it was the pairing process it seems was wrong with my outlets at least.

I'm not so sure about that. Did you try powering the hub off (so no power at all) for 20-30 minutes, and then powering it back up?

That would do two things:

  1. Clear any funky state the hub's zigbee radio was in, and
  2. Put your devices in panic mode - making them ready to reconnect with the hub when it was powered up again.

yes did that and then a soft reset then they paired finally. might of had something to do with it too. I am guessing

Update:
After my posts to everyone i kept getting mixed results on pairing and/or communication to the hub. This is what I did:

i guess an odd thing happened. i changed my wifi router to a new one and still had the same issues. I then changed my wifi name on the 2.4ghz band and this basically fixed my issues. I suspect, somehow i was getting some kind of interference between the wifi signal and the zigbee signal. My zigbee mesh isnt perfect but, its a lot better than before. Not sure how this all ties in but this is my update for anyone who is interested. FYI, my hub is hardwired from my switch and not the router if this helps in figuring out what is really wrong.

Normally I would run the router at 6 or 11 and zigbee at 15 or 20. That should keep them from interfering with each other.

yes, agreed. ive had this same setup for years and been fine basically. I suspect my old router somehow malfunctioned and changed channels. I was never able to log back into it to check (another indicator it was toast). with the new router i was on auto channel. Once i changed the SSID and channel to 11 its basically ok. I always used ch 20 on the hub except when i was troubleshooting. Thx for all your help as well.
