Srr for this question, but i'am really confused now.
a few day's ago my Zigbee Tuya died after a update, so i was looking after another Hub to replace it. I only use Zigbee.
Most important for me is that the device must be capable for backups, because this is the second time i have to reconnect al my lamps again with a ZIGBEE hub.
I was so close to buy the Hubitat c8 plus, before a gotted really confused when i read the comments between the different for local or cloud backups.
What i understand if i do a local backup, and something happened, i can't use the local backup to restore my Zigbee devices, and i have to repairing them again. in this case i'am nothing with the C8, because then i have the same problem wath i had with the Philips HUe and the Tuya Zigbee gateaway.
Only on the cloud the zigbee devices wil be restored.
The cloud i have to pay
But when i read the topics of https:_community.hubitat.com_t_cloud-backup_113887_36 the following answer of csteeleDeveloper
quote
Hubs on v2.3.5.101 and later have the option to make a cloud backup for FREE. Cloud includes the Radio data for ZWave and Zigbee.
ONLY the C-8 has the option to use that free backup
Make as many free cloud backups as you want.
Hubs with a Hub Protect subscription can use the cloud backups. BUT only the C-8 can use the Zigbee part of the cloud backup.
Unqoute
what's the right answer now for the C8 plus that i want to buy.
Do i have to pay for restoring my zigbee device's or not
Srr for very bad english btw
I've just located that thread and post that you've referenced. It's as clear as mud to me. As far as I'm aware you can only restore Z Wave and Zigbee radios from a cloud backup if you have hub protect. Without Hub Protect restoring from a cloud backup will only restore the hubs database containing apps, rules and settings.
That post is referring to the Migration Backup which is a one time backup that is enabled for the purpose of moving from a C7/C8/C8-Pro to another C8/C8-Pro.
The ability to create a regular ongoing cloud backup that includes the radio data is only available as part of the Hub Protect subscription (which also includes a new hub if a protected device fails). Currently this subscription is about $29.99/year.
I thought that was the case. I like to live dangerously and fear the day when I have to access 49 Z Wave devices behind light switches and re include them because of a catastrophic failure - mainly because they're Z Wave 500 and need to be added with a stick to avoid S0 - ugh.
Ok tx everyone for the answers.
And idd i understand johnnwill1 very wel. The same here. normal zigbee devices have a resetbutton, but the lampbubbles have a on/off sequentce to reset. So i must disconnect hem one for one and reset them. Luckely i provided the possibility to turn the lamps via remote controllers and not only via google.
But clearly the Hubitat is not that i was looking for.
I found another device that is capable of restoring zigbee to a hub when crashed or need to be replaced.
But then again tx for the responses.
Does the cloud back up for C8 migration remain indefinitely? If I create a C8 migration backup and 6 months later my C7 crashes and I buy a C-8 will the backup with the radio data still be available to use?
I don't know about indefinitely, but I can still see the "migration ready" backup from my migration still available from last year. I guess the question is whether you would want to go so far back in terms of all the other configuration and other work you may need to do to get everything else back up and running... Not sure if you then restored a local backup if that would be enough.... Or the best approach....
I have Hub Protect on my main hub C8-Pro. I have three others devoted to specific tasks, but I do not have Hub Protect on them. I do a cloud backup of my C8P every night and fairly regular local backups of the others. Maybe too much. But I make changes to my smart home environment on a daily basis. I take comfort in knowing that I won't lose days, weeks, months of changes to the C8P. Many times I have had unfortunate experiences of a backup that was not up-to-date enough, requiring much more effort to restore my system.
You could but honestly, why wouldn't you get the hub protect sub? If something happens to your hubitat and it needs replaced, you will get one with free shipping. Then the hub can do automatic backups to cloud AND local every night
