Every time that I find my automations are not responding, there is always a platform update pending. Happened again just now, the update is rebooting as I type this.
C5, with about 8 Zwave devices and about 10 Zigbee devices, so not a large network.
This has been a recurring issue for the last two years, this isn’t just the latest release.
Am I the only one experiencing this?
This is an occasionally-made claim, but the situation is usually that updates become available fairly regularly, and some people don't check their hub until they are having a problem. Thus, there is likely an update available when they check for that problem, but it's not the cause of the problem.
For your actual troubleshooting:
Some very general tips are here, with the ones most likely to be applicable to your situation perhaps being the tips for apps (since you mentioned automations), but the general steps like checking Logs may also help:

I have auto-reboot installed, and have it set to reboot twice each week, but I wonder if it gets stuck to the point that the auto-reboot does not even run. I’ll check the logs again, but on a quick run through, I didn’t see anything obvious.
I have a mix of ZWave, Zigbee, and one (only one) WiFi device, and mostly running simple lighting, motion, button, and a couple RM5.1 automations.
Next time it happens, I’ll look more closely at the logs.
