Automation Failed

I went home at lunch, went into my office, nothing turned on. I have a simple Motion Automation setup.

I checked and the motion sensors update, but the lights (2 GE bulbs) don't log activity. I can manually turn one on in it's device page, the other doesn't respond. So I tried a few other devices, nothing, action or logging wise. All devices say Active.

Then I just let the log window sit for a while, nothing, not even the motion sensors were showing up. All devices have description logging if available, none are setup with debug logging right now.

I didn't want to reboot the hub until mentioning this and seeing if there are any steps I should take to investigate.

Does seem odd. Rebooting doesn’t hurt anything from the settings page -> reboot hub.

No power surge or hiccup or anything like that?

Please open a support ticket at support@hubitat.com and we can see what we can do to investigate the cause.

Hopefully a reboot fixes the problem. If not, support can help see whats going on and escalate if need be.

Nothing abnormal, device is on a UPS, with a whole home surge protector as well. I’ll reboot when I get home and see what happens.

.GE Links? They fall off every zigbee network occasionally, even using their own coordinator. And since they are marked as zigbee routers (Repeaters), things get even more exciting. :scream:

Not saying that’s what’s happening here, but I just wanted to mention it.

Any chance you have a hue bridge (don’t call it a hub or @JDRoberts will be mad  ) by chance?

I moved all my ge link bulbs to it and as JD stated, they fall off all the time, but when its just the hue mesh things seem to recover much better.

Trying to use the GE Links on the mesh can be problematic for sure. I misread your first post thought I saw GE Switches.

The other issue with the GE Links is when they do fall off completely and lose their association, they turn on… Major problems with that, especially considering how hot they can get.

Hope we can do better with them, but they are somewhat problematic, historically speaking.

Almost never had issues with the GE’s on the ST hub, even though I know others have. No Hue bridges.

So a reboot didn’t fix it, no logging/response at all.

I turned the two lights off at the switch for an hour or two, then powered them back up. Hub saw them and I sent a config to both and waited. Then i started flicking them on and off, both started working again.

Motion App still wouldn’t trigger. The motion sensors had stopped logging activity as well. So I assumed it was a zigbee issue maybe, not just the bulbs. So I disabled and re-enabled the zigbee radio. Motion still failed, I walked away for an hour, and now it all works.

This seemed to be more than just a GE light issue. My zigbee locks worked the whole time, two zigbee motion sensors and the 2 GE lights flaked out badly. No glitches with my z-wave devices.

I’ve got 4 GE, and 4-5 Cree’s, will be migrating the Cree’s next, we’ll see how they function.

Issue is back, now two motion sensors aren’t being detected, Iris and ST, along with the lights. I’m on ch11, ST is 25, so neither are fighting one another, or my wifi.

I’ll open a support ticket.

Turn the power off to the bulbs, then take the hub off power for 15 minutes. Then put the hub back on power but don’t put the bulbs back on power yet and leave it that way for about an hour. Then turn the bulbs back on.

That should prevent the sensors from using the bulbs as a parent, so it’s worth Trying to see if it helps at all.

Doing so right now. If the sensors come up to the hub without trying to relay off the bulbs, will they stay that way or does Zigbee allow for some kind of occasional rediscovery that may push them back to the bulbs?

It won't happen in normal operations, but if the hub goes off-line for more than 10 minutes or so and then comes back, the bulbs would get selected as repeaters again.

The following FAQ is about Sylvania bulbs but applies to any ZHA bulb that has this issue, which is most of them, unfortunately.

So I thought that worked at first, things seemed to be responding, albeit a bit slowly.

Now I get this on both GE lights and they are not responding at all:

The motion sensors seem to be solid now though.

Well my lights are possessed. They keep cycling on and off, at random. Log’s don’t’ show anything about any Apps trying to operate them, they have lost their minds!

I just got a notification that the zigbee network is not online, tried removing the motion lighting app with these two lights, and the hub seems frozen.
