Automatic Pro integration

Is there an integration with Automatic Pro available?

AFAIK, no. However, they do have open APIs, so it shouldn't be too hard to wire something up.

I had Automatic for a couple of days and couldn't get it to work with my car at all. :frowning:

@corerootedxb

I've had one for almost 3 years with no issues. Sadly, I'm at sea when it comes to writing an integration .... there is an integration for Home Assistant as well.

I use the one from Yves Racine on ST, then use HubConnect to get it to Hubitat. Unfortunately his code is a mess and very buggy. The integration frequently fails on ST and requires the vehicle to be deleted and recreated. Unfortunately he denies it's his issue so I cannot officially recommend that anyone pay for it.

Do you mean the dongle or Yves SmartThings integration? I used Automatic for several months with Home Assistant, and it was generally ok. Don't remember any major hiccups. I'm currently using IFTTT to integrate it with Hubitat - its a nice way to set Home & Away modes.

The Yves integration. I love Automatic... Being that we travel a lot with the camper in the warmer months, its really cool to use the history map available on their website to see where you've been.

I believe it's called Trip Map in the labs section.

The only way to use this for presence is when the Automatic has a connection with your phone, correct? So, why not just use your phone instead of Automatic?

Incorrect.

Then how does it work for presence without a phone to connect to? It doesn't have a cellular radio built in. It connects via Bluetooth.

Could be old news, but a while ago when I looked at Automatic for presence they do have cell connectivity that's the previous 5 year marketing. The catch is that for realtime it is bluetooth to the phone and the cellular updates only happen If I remember every 3 minutes in motion? and on ignition on/off events.... Due to the lack of continuous updates I didn't find much use for them versus a regular OBDII GPS unit.

[EDIT]: Oh and I think they were also 2G units as well, which today are almost useless with TMO being the only largish carrier still holding a sizable 2G network for older GPS devices.

Looks like there are LTE models now but require a monthly contract.

Variable time period up to 3 minutes.

Yeah that sounds about right. It was a while ago when I looked at them.

@jeubanks

I've used one for 3 years with Home Assistant. It's never failed, although to be fair, I'm almost always in TMo covered areas.

@aaiyar I looked at them a while ago and the update timing didn't meet my requirements. I went with a different setup. TMo is also terrible where I live so there's that too.
