Checking back with the community on this. I purchased a new Kwikset 888 lock and am having problems using it with the hubitat. It pairs easily using the generic zwave lock driver. ...and initially allows me to view status, send lock/unlock commands, etc. But have encountered the following problems:
The lock manager commands to add users and codes aren't working properly. They typically return 'failed' status. In some cases they show failed but actually DO enable a new code (but no user in lock manager).
At some point (a few hours or days?) the lock stops working with the hubitat and I have to reset and re-pair it.
Unclear if the 2nd issue is caused by me sending commands thru the lock manager so I will pair it again and just try sending basic lock/unlock codes. Would appreciate any feedback or tips the community can offer here.
Sorry to tell you but these locks are junk. Their internal antenna is so weak that even having a ZWave repeater only 5' away still will not help them receive and confirm messages. I worked with Mike on these for over 2 months. He didn't have any issues as the device was in his work area but as soon as I had it back in my steel door they stopped working. I finally sold mine on eBay and bought two Yale locks. Works flawlessly now with zero issues.
My neighbor that lived down the street bought one of these and had me install it and set it up for her using SmartThings. Worst lock ever. Constantly fell off the network. I must have re-paired that to ST at least half-a-dozen times over the 8 months she lived there.
Thanks for the feedback. I've been digging thru other threads on deadbolt solutions and seeing mixed (at best) feedback on Kwikset. I purchased from Amazon so it's going back...
Based on what I've read, Yale locksets seem to be popular and have overall better feedback. Also generally seeing more positive comments about zigbee deployments vs zwave here -- and I have a decent zigbee device mesh. So will try the Yale YRD216HA2619 Zigbee option. Fingers crossed...
I returned the Kwikset zwave lock. You were right -- the new Yale zigbee lock IS better in nearly every way. The mechanical design seems more substantial. It was easier to install. It paired easily and has now been running for almost two days and works flawlessly with the HE. Thanks for the recommendations. The Yale lock costs more but is worth it.
