Aqara FP1E no better than a Normal Motion Sensor?

Anyone has any success with these detecting a static person?

I've just got one and after doing the double voodoo trick managed to get it paired OK.

But so far it is no better than a Hue Sensor. I've got it in on the Lounge TV unit pointing at our seating area which is about 4m away and it goes inactive even when someone is sat there. As this was the whole point in getting it I'm not very impressed. I even moved it to another position 1m away from OH and it goes inactive unless she actually waves her arms around. If she stays still is goes inactive after a short time.

I'm using the built-in driver and have tried High/Medium/Low Sensitivity and Near/Medium/Far Approach distance and it hasn't made much, if any difference.

I got it from Amazon so it can easily go back but before that I wondered if anyone had any more success with this and if there are any settings that were better? I read something about AI learning on it, is that just Marketing BS or do they genuinely take some while to "learn" a room?

Mine works for me, I only have one of them, and the rest of my mmWave sensors are Linptec/Moes ES1. I really do not see much difference between the FP1E and the ES1s. I do like the light sensor in the ES1s though.

I'm using this driver:

Mine senses static presence well, it will even get my dog sleeping on the couch about 4m away.

I did have an issue with my sensor a few weeks ago, it slowly degraded until it would not go inactive anymore, I posted about that in the release post above. I got it fixed with a couple full resets, Otherwise, my FP1E has worked pretty well over the last year or so I have had it.

I have 6 of them in service. 5 are connected to the Aqara M3 hub and brought into Hubitat via the matter bridge and 1 is connected directly to Hubitat and I am using the Dedicated Aqara FP300 Sensor Driver from HPM.

They all 6 work great for me. I have no issues with any of them. They all detect people in the room as they should with no issue. I fell asleep on the chair in the TV room and I checked the logs and it detected me present the entire

Have you tried targetDistance? I use that on mine. I find it better than using ACTIVE for my uses (I made zones with buffers..its coarse but works)

I am using the system driver. Is targetDistance from one of the other drivers?

Another thing I've noticed is that the system driver has 3 buttons on the device page and in the logs are various entries for "button x pushed".

I don't know why a presence sensor needs buttons or what they do.

Maybe I need to switch drivers.

You need to switch drivers. There is no “built in driver” that works for these sensors. They are different.

The only two drivers that work with these sensors currently that I am aware of are listed by me and @chrisbvt in the thread above.

Please note he’s not using a FP300…but rather a FP1E sensor. My driver will not work with the FP1E.

There is. This is from the list of officially supported devices and I am using the system driver.

@ogiewon you are correct. I totally misread that one. @Geoff_T i would suggest you use the driver recommend by @chrisbvt. My apologies for misleading you. That was totally my fault.
