Apple Home Presence Trouble

I have been using Apple Home via HomeBridge as one of multiple presence sources. I have 4 Apple TV 4K that act as the Apple Home hub, and I have iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro for my wife and I. It has worked well for the better part of a year. Since ios17 and the latest Apple TV update, though, it’s been very problematic. Apple support doesn’t seem to know. Wondering if anyone else has by chance had a similar issue in their setup.

  • Apple Home notifications are setup to notify me if doors open or locks unlock, but only if nobody is home. Right now I’m getting these notifications even though both my wife and I are home. This suggests to me that it’s Apple Home itself, not homebridge or Hubitat, that’s the problem.
  • sometimes Hubitat reports Apple home had phantom presence changes in the middle of the night
  • at one point today Apple was reporting my presence correctly, but not anymore. Hasn’t reported my wife’s presence correctly in a week.
  • I have updated all operating systems, reset location services, deleted and re-added my wife to the home, double checked all location permissions and settings, and of course restarted everything including all devices, modem, router, etc.

Anyone had a similar issue or have any other ideas??

I am also using a few AppleTVs as my hubs, but both our phones are iPhone 11. All devices are updated to the latest OS. I have seen the issue with presence changes at various times, but not very frequently (less than twice a month).

The biggest issue I see is that it often misses updating when I leave the geofence. Oddly enough it never happens to the wife, just to me, and it always seems to recognize when I get back inside the geofence.

No clue why this happens, nor why it only happens to 50% of the household. I first thought that it might be due to my home being in a remote location with no cell phone signal, but if that was the case, I would think that we'd both see the issue.

For me it has been working great for my device still, but around when we updated to iOS 17 it is not reliable for my wife's device anymore. I thought maybe if I delete the "automation" on Home that I created to flip the virtual switch on/off and create it from her device maybe it would help but I have not tried that yet.
