Its a new feature and it supposed to help you do stuff. Maybe its stays on the phone, maybe it doesn't? Its also built into a lot of apps configs including "Hubitat" Says "Allow Siri to learn how you use Hubitat to make suggestions across apps" Im cautious.. Not going to let this run until more things are know. Especially messaging, facetime, etc..
Find My (available on ios and macos). Tap on the Items tab.
Boy, it sure takes a lot of tips to be able to use the supposed best designed phone/ecosystem.
Ask about tips for android, and I bet you get much more "advice". What brand? Is it rooted?
I know, right!
Could you imagine how much longer it would be for the other platform sorry, the flavor of the month of the other platform
LOL
We do have our preferences, don't we?
I still wish I had my old Pearl...[sniff]...miss that cute little bugger.
The Blackberry Pearl was definitely a good phone! I had a Motorola Razr before that.
I got used to the gestures on my Moto, then had to forget them and learn the Samsung, and now the iPhone, which doesn't have too many.
But, it won't trace the location over time on a map.
No history is kept or accessible, apparently.
I believe by design.
Lol. My wife had that one for a bit and, letās just say she was very happy to move over to the iPhone!
This is addressed (albeit not in extensive detail) on the page you linked to.
Apple Intelligenceās access to other apps can be disabled on a per-app basis.
In general, Apple does more for their usersā privacy protection than some other tech giants, presumably because they arenāt as dependent on using/selling user data as a core component of their business model.
To make a blanket statement that Apple Intelligence is using each of us āas an AI learning toolā (and to recommend that others avoid using it) absent any specific information doesnāt seem like a fair assessment to me.
Still loving the phone.
The built in-Maps app has notifications based on travel time. I think that's awesome. Although, I mostly kept location disabled on my Android. I'm more 'trustful' of Apple, misplaced or not.
The "unsend" feature on Messages also is cool. If the message hasn't been read, you can make it disappear. Knowing whether the recipient has disabled notification, as in do not disturb, is also nice. I guess they're part of iMessages, although I'm unclear on that.
I shared my location (definable; chose an hour) with a friend of mine when I went walking alone in the woods the other day. (Did I mention I fell last summer, as in face-meet-rock; using walking sticks now). Not sure what he saw, but I don't think it was a track. Probably like FindMe I experimented with the AirTag, but not sure, yet.
Siri, on the phone, is still a work in progress for me. Using dictation all the time now. Much quicker than Swype, and very accurate. But again....mumbling to myself...not a good look.
Apple makes laptops and tablets: any recommendations there? Appears I've drunk the KoolAid.
I am typing this from the iPad Pro. These are truly awesome! I especially like the Magic Keyboard that makes it even more usable as a daily device.
Also note, the Apple Watch has fall detection capability that will notify your emergency contact of an fall event if you donāt tell it youāre okay. Sounds like this is something you might wantā¦
Welcome to Apple
What's not to love? It can almost appear boring in it's simplicity compared to other devices but as they say 'it just works'
Yeah that's a great feature. I have my work appointments in my calendar so when I set off in the car I can navigate straight to the job. Once maps navigation is started, turn by turn directions appear on my Apple Watch giving me a haptic buzz when there's a route to follow ahead or an indicator 'tick tock' as I approach a turn - no taking my hands off the wheel or eyes off the road. The Watch also stores the parked car location when it disconnects from bluetooth; I can tap an icon on my watch and get a heading to the car with an exact distance. I don't know why (I do - I'm a nerd) but I always do that when I'm out of the country - last week while on holiday I could tell the wife 'the car is 1,571.3 miles in that direction!
Yup Apple is addictive. I have iPhone, Apple Watch, HomePod Mini's, Apple TVs and MacBook Pro. With regard to laptops the MacBook Pro's are great - I have a 14" MacBook Pro M1 which is a 2021 model but still really fast for what I use it for. The newer MacBook Airs are really good now so it would depend on how compact you need your laptop - the Air is really slim and lightweight. I have 'Parallels' running on my Mac which allows me to run Windows 11 side by side with the Mac OS. I HATE Windows but I do need it for some specific software I need for my business.
Another thing to mention is the way everything syncs seamlessly between Apple devices using iCloud. We've just been away for a week on holiday so took lots of photos on the phone, they just get sync'd to iCloud, and now I'm back I open the Photos app on my MacBook and there they are ready to edit. A couple of clicks and I've shared them all to my wife using Apple's Airdrop.
Hi @velvetfoot,
I gave up on windows/itunes sync/backup for iphone and bought a Mac Mini - very happy with that transition. I tried alternates but gave in and bought Office for Mac which just got a refresh last year. My gen 6 watch still keeps me (mostly) on time for appointments, though most recently I had more of an interest in the watch''s fitness capabilities. In that regard, I have been deeply unimpressed, but the other functions make it indispensible. Air tags are on keys and in wallet & sunglasses case. I use Foobar2000 as my music player and Pocket Casts for podcasts. That iCloud subscription also allows you to use your own domains for email if so inclined. Most recently, struggles with Hubitat geofencing appear resolved by moving the geofence component within ios/homekit and just bridging to a hubitat virtual switch to toggle modes. It's been working reliably for about 5 days now - my appreciation to @hydro311, @mark.cockcroft for the suggestion. Homekit/home also allows control of my WIFI T6 Pro thermostat which I dont believe is supported by Hubitat (not to be confused with the z-wave T6 Pro). Welcome to the iOS/Hubitat rabbit hole!
Today, believe it or not, I bought the cheapest and latest MacBook Pro. Unbelievably, Best Buy had it for $200 less than list. I guess Iām all In now.
Gonna have to study up on Finder, IOS' file manager?
I'll figure it out, at some point.
Integration with phone is great...eg, messaging.
Yep, having iMessage available on a laptop/desktop is very nice. Along with all of your Contacts, Calendars, Apple Home, Reminders, Notes, etc... It really is nice to have everything in one ecosystem.
Enjoy your new MacBook Pro!
Thanks.
From a physical point of view, it seems to be built like a brick sxxx house.
