Any idea if S2 security functionality for the Zen16 will be part of the new hub update?
Mine is paired S2 Unauthenticated on 2.2.3.148... it paired this way by default. I didn't receive a DSK with my Zen16, so my assumption was that S2 Authenticated wasn't an option. Is this incorrect?
With the Zen16 on C7, I had to uncheck all the security boxes to get it to work. So security=none is what I've got. Maybe not that great for a garage door opener.
Odd... it's always paired S2 for me on my C-7, and I say always because my learning curve with the HE saw me bork my setup several times. I think I've rebuilt my zwave mesh 3 times. Maybe @agnes.zooz has an idea? Here's what I see in device details, in case it helps you in some way...
I did have problems when I used one for my water shutoff valve (watercop) and had to go to none. I'm getting one for the garage, so I thought I'd ask.
I see the firmware versions are different. Mine is 1.03.
I’ve also had mine joined with S2 since August. Depending on distances it could be finicky, I’d suggest trying to join again to see if you can get it to successfully join with S2.
Ok, will do. I'll try it with the new one when it arrives.
You should be able to join and use the device with S2 security, just remember this device support S2 Unauthenticated only. @velvetfoot let me know if you run into any issues with the new device!
i could not use it s2 either.. it would not answer to repair messages etc. so was unuseable.. works fine with no security. and zooz themself told me there were issues with it when paired with security. some are lucky and not experiences issues.
There were some issues with S2 and multichannel devices in the early C-7 platform as far as we know but most if not all should have been addressed by now. We'll do some more testing on our side to see as well!
Agnes (@agnes.zooz), I was never able to get my Zen16 to work reliably with the default S2 (unauthenticated) on my C-7 running 2.2.148. I excluded, reset, included it with no security, and it works fine. I don’t believe it’s a mesh issue - there is a Ring Extender 2 ten feet away toward the C-7, and another Ring Extender 2 ten feet further away.
The use is to control our patio fireplace lights on one of the relays - other relays unused. The fireplace lights controller is an odd one - in order to put it into a color cycling mode, it has to be turned on, off, on within 3 seconds. The symptom when paired S2 was that frequently there would be a four or five second delay between command executions. No other Z-Wave device had any issues. Again, after re-pairing without security, everything is fine, instantaneous execution, no other changes. It’s only fireplace lights, so secure pairing isn’t needed.
Edit: in case it matters, my Zen16 is powered by a Power Supply plug from TheSmartestHouse.
my experience is it work for awhile allbeit with delay sometimes as you say.. again not the mesh as there are two switches in the garage with it.. and an extender and the garage door sensor or side door zwave sensor never have any issues.. once it stopped working , it would not answer any repair requests or find any adjacent nodes.. i would climb up the ladder power cycle it and it work work for awhile again.. it appeared like it would not use any of the switches or even the light switches just inside the garage door as repeaters.. once i got rid of the s2 unsecure and re-paired it .. it started working fine and also repair works.
i also tried both usb and direct wire plug in case it was a power issue.. .. for now i am using the plug that i bought with it from smartesthouse in a bundle.
@kahn-hubitat , what is your firmware version? Mine is 1.03, @672southmain 's is 1.02 and @eppower 's is 1.02. Not seeing a trend here, lol.
I might just try re-pairing again with the one attached to the water shutoff valve; just to see.
Thanks for the detailed description of the issue @672southmain, we may need to wait for the upcoming platform release to see some of the S2 multichannel hiccups to go away. We'll keep testing on our side as well.
In case it matters, here is the simple rule that controls the relay:
The trigger is a virtual switch so that Alexa can turn the fireplace lights on.
I successfully paired up the new Zen16 S2 yesterday with the recommended checkbox, S2 Class 2 Unauthenticated. The one I had also re-paired to this security.
