ANOTHER Power Outage

Whoever criticized you was wrong. Your decision makes sense to me. I'd also save propane for serious, long-term, outages.

My previous generator was a propane generator, and I had the same attitude. I'd crank it on only if I knew power would be out for more than a few hours.

Shame you don't have natural gas service .....

Can you get natural gas service? It makes running a backup/standby generator so much easier.

It's the devil's gas, if you believe our leadership.

Correct. Natural gas (methane) is indeed associated with swamp gas.

I've been there too.
The devastating fire was a terrible terrible thing.

Yeah. It's at 75% now. I want to try to keep it that way.
Max they fill, is what, 75-80%.
How low does it have to get before they'll come out to top it off to that %?
Yada, yada, yada.

I wish. We have it at our second home at the coast. Has a generator, too. That is where we went between hotel and Maui.

Man, I want to like this post, but that gives the wrong impression, so Yes, I agree. It was a terrible loss. People are still struggling. Many thank us for coming, some don't say anything. We had to drive past Lahaina to get to the condo. Devastating.

Is anybody else thinking...."get your butt out there and figure out why". :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth: :grimacing:

Agree. I have natural gas fueling our 20kw generator and it's great to not have to worry about refueling, running low, etc.

When there’s a storm and the electric power goes out, the natural gas supply is never (or almost never) affected?

Except during (last winter's?) Texas cold wave.

Storms, yes. Earthquakes, no.

Agree...lived in Hawaii twice growing up and have visited frequently over the years since. Just could not believe it, seemed unimaginable. My wife wanted to go back this year but I just found it too difficult to face in person yet.

In my area (western NY) and experience (I’m 75), the natural gas supply has never faltered. I guess theoretically it could fail, but it’s very unlikely. If the gas system fails, we’re in a world of other crap already.

I believe that’s what happens when the sewer system fails.

I believe you’re correct.

I was floored when I found out natural gas is stored underground.

Boom!
