An amusing C7/ZWave mesh failure

So, in your opinion, people who face disappointment and frustration at how Z-wave works, are like flat earthers? I see...

So I'm a flat earther I guess... Because a network that fails just because of ONE failed node is definitely a bad, bad, bad thing in my opinion. What is even more surprising is to see so many "experts" finding this perfectly normal. It is not.

Worse, not being able to quickly identify the bottleneck generated by this device without having to run a full scale investigation really doesn't make Z-wave's future look good, at least for the mass market that is growing fast now.

Simple fact: all my friends who have smart homes switched to Apple's system... guess why? Something tells me you're defending Z-wave the same way people were defending Windows 98 back in the day... or worse, Windows Millenium

Z-wave is definitely not a viable long term smart home solution for mass market.

Other simple fact: Silicon Labs are aware of the problem, since they knew they had to make their new gen of chips capable to self-heal...

So, not only it's not reliable but it's also not cheap and will be chipped away by CHIP some day (that part was just for fun).

I have to admit, I don't know what you're talking about. :frowning:

I said my mind.. MY Mind.. was behaving like a flat earther.. a believer in falsehoods.. when I took the rumors of a platform problem as where to start debugging.

I don't know how you extrapolated that into what you wrote. I'm repeating.. I called ME out as reacting like a flat earther. Not You, not anyone else.

Ignoring the inflammatory start, I can hardly wait for a 'new thing'.

I have an Apple system. It's a good dashboard. I don't need a dashboard, but I've spent enough hours in the care and feeding of many many dashboards that I feel I have to visit a dashboard now and again.

Your fantasy is imaginative and appealing... when can I get a home there? I have zero doubt that one day I'll swap out all my end devices with another solution. Til then, I have these Z-Devices.

Really.. I can hardly wait.. because right now, my home automation feels an awful lot like it's complete. Yea, I tinker, but I really want to have a new Project. It would be so nice to rip this out and replace it with better. However, it feels like I need to take a 5 year nap to wake to that new world you imagine.

Well, I can confirm there's a problem with the C7 platform. Had C4, C5. Had some issues, of course, but never the kind of systematic issues I'm facing here... One week into the process and I still don't have a working mesh and most of my nodes unreachable several minutes after a fresh reboot. If I run a repair right after reboot, most of my nodes respond. 10 minutes after that 90% of a 40+ devices network is down, completely down with all nodes dead.

I report the opposite. I have a C-3, a pair of C-4, a pair of C-5 and a pair of C-7.

Just a week or two ago, I retired the C-3 and the C-4's. One of the C-7's is (glacially) replacing what was once a C-3 but which got migrated to a C-5 by simply attaching the C-3's stick to the C-5. I have 40 ZWave devices on the C-7, zero Zigbee. 30 more to go... 30 that remain on the original USB Stick and the C-5.

Yep your experience is mine as well - except I was using C-4's. I migrated my Zigbee stuff to a C-5 via a restore and repair. The ZW+ stuff went to the C-7. Am currently in the process of replacing some older Zooz Zen23 V2's and the inclusion/exclusion process on the HE has been MUCH improved. I have not had to do the whole pull power wait restart thing yet :crossed_fingers:

One of my old C-4's was for cloud, Lutron and misc network devices but it died so now most of that stuff (temporarily) lives on the C-5 until I swap it back to another hub probably a C-5.

Things have been running smoothly in spite of all my attempts to the contrary..

I must have a fault device because even after full reset I've had the exact same issue. Not one asociation goes well with non-plus devices and plus devices also can generate ghost devices at times/ This C7 hub has been a total failure on my end.
