Do we know if there are any recommended options for alternative antenna for the C-8. The reason i am asking is i was thinking of wall mounting it. But since the provided antenna are locked to 90 degree from how they screw in I am not sure i like this. Any thoughts on a antenna i can orient different mainly coming straight out from where it screws in.
You want to wall mount it with the antenna ports up/down I am assuming?
If you put the ports to the side you can flip one up and one down but I agree this is not really ideal.
I was originally thinking of having the both pointing up which would mean i would need to rotate the antenna. I do realize that is a option after posting, just wasn't my initial thought That orentation won't cause a problem right.
They suggested it on the live stream, so I hope not! Ports to the side, one antenna up and one down. The important thing is to have them vertical. Unless I suppose you live in a 6 story one room per floor house, then maybe horizontal would work better.
I am sure it wont be long though before one of our antenna experts has some recommendations. You could always look at what was recommended for the C7 mods. One port is Zwave and one is Zigbee, you could put different antenna on each port. The ones that come with the hub are dual purpose so they work for both.
Lol . I guess someone may have that. Thanks. I will mount it that way. I am also wondering about the the version it comes with i completed the migration and then noticed it was back level. Hopefully you don't have to be on the latest realease on the C-8 before you migrate to it. It should be on new level in a moment though.
No they have said before that the backups are not really platform version dependent. I would assume to an extent, as long as you don't roll so far back that some of the apps are not even in the code. I don't think much changed from the latest 2.3.4.x to 2.3.5.101 except the few bug fixes noted and the free migration backup options.
Yea. I was just initially suprised as i thought 2.3.5.101 was partially to add support for the c-8. Clearly it wasn't as this one seems to be working fine. Migration compelted and tested a few things. Time to power it down and put it back in the same spot as the hub it is replacing.
What I did exactly what was said above as far as mounting it on the wall. I just used 3M Command tape to stick it to the wall so it could be easily removed if needed. They should be easily able to hold it there. I think next I am going to tie the two cables together.
I am really curious about folks experience with it running on wifi instead of Ethernet. Being that the old hub was only 100mbps I can't imagine wifi would cause to much problem. It shouldn't be negatively impacted at all as long as it is anything beyond basic N wireless.
Absolutely...there are enough potential issues w/home automation for me to not want to add the Wi-Fi variable into it unless absolutely necessary. And I have a very solid Wi-Fi network.
There is probably some coordination of the co-located wifi and Zigbee radios in the C-8. SiLabs calls their scheme 'Packet traffic arbitration' ; the internal radios use GPIO signals to handshake and not step on each other. Demo'd here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiEe_EbhpGg
There would be some extra latency with that scheme; probably why the recommendation to use wired LAN for best performance.
Well and that is my point of the question. The hub doesn't need much bandwidth as even the wired connection isn't on the fast side. Some wireless devices do better at maintaining a connection then others. I am not rushing to move mine to wireless I have a decent spot for it to plug into my wired network. I am just curios how that that will use it see it's reliability.
