Aeotec siren gen5 security s0

Was going through my Z-Wave details and noticed my Aeotec Gen5 siren security is ‘s0’

All my other Z-Wave devices have security set to ‘none’

I excluded it and when repairing there was no option to set security as I have seen when including some Z-Wave devices.

Is this going to require me reinstalling the SL software for my Zooz Z-Stick (pc crashed so I had to reinstall Win10) or is there a way to include it with no security?

I am assuming security set to none rather than s0 is better.

You're describing C-7 behavior... as dictated by SiLabs to get a hub certified as 700 series.

The only workaround is, as you described, via a secondary controller (ZWave USB stick) and SiLabs PC Controller. There's plenty of irony there that SiLabs own released software doesn't use the 700 series API, it still uses 500 series API, even when talking to a 700 USB stick. Lucky us, because that's what allows us to thrive

I remember getting frustrated setting up PC Controller. It might be a walk in the park for most people here, but not me.

Is there a siren that doesn’t include with security? Or is it OK to have s0?

If you have any other secondary controller that permits inclusion, like an Aeon Labs Minimote, you can use that to include devices with no security. That's what I use - I have no way to run PC Controller on any of my Macs (they're all M1).

S0 works, it's just sends 3x the messages. If the siren is direct, and at 100k, then 3x is no worse than 2 hops and 40k, probably slightly better

Locks and Garage Door Openers (collectively called Barrier Devices) MUST use Security and the great majority are S0. What that means is you don't want a lot of S0, the minimum is the ideal

Same vendor, same distance from the Hub, different vintage. The Linear one is a couple years older, so it probably only supports 40k.

Two Locks, two GDO, I'm running S0 at a minimum. I have one S2 for validation reasons.. (I want one to know it's working when I do a platform or Zwave upgrade.)

For what its worth, I used PC Controller to add my Gen5 sirens without security. Using the Hubitat, as stated, will just include it S0 and not give you an option... I had originally included them with my C5's and then migrated to the C7's. So I was not aware of this C7 issue until I had to remove and repair one... Funny cause the C5 just added it without security from what I remember...

I believe that is correct. The version of Z-Wave SDK (7) on the C-7 requires security (in this case) where the version on the C-5 does not (due to the older SDK version).

What you did is what I did but I had the Gen6 siren so I didn't feel comfortable telling you to do that since I had no first hand knowledge of the Gen5.

Glad it worked.

Aeotec usually includes based on a button, and the number of clicks. One click is no security, two clicks is S0. They certainly could have changed things up with their Gen7 devices, but for Gen5, single/double click were the magic.

Thank you for the offer. The siren was used to alert of a water leak. If/when Echo Speaks is updated, I will use that instead of the siren.
