Weird situation. We had our house painted recently, and the painters remove (and lost!) this device. It is still in my Habitat. Been trying to remove, but can't do it. Tried a force remove. Tried doing a remove from the Z-wave details page. Anyone got any ideas? DO I need to buy a new one? I originally bought this to help two Schlage locks, but they have since been updated to Z-Wave Plus and work fine without the repeater.
Typical! Whenever I have tradespeople in they invariably do their job perfectly while stomping all over one done previously
It seems like there are multiple separate issues here.
First, you tried a "Force Remove," which (if successful--and there's no reason it shouldn't be) will remove the device from your "Devices" list in Hubitat but won't affect the fact that it's included to your Z-Wave radio. This is generally undesirable, especially for repeaters, but it can be used to get rid of a Z-Wave device from "Devices" but not Settings > Z-Wave Details. Are you saying this much didn't work either? It should, maybe not if you have a corrupted database, but it's generally not where I'd start.
Second, it sounds like you tried a "Remove" from the Z-Wave Details page. I'm not clear on what failed here--if you saw the button and it didn't work or if you just don't see the button at all. If you don't see it, you should see "Refresh," which will try to ping the device and eventually show a "Remove" button if you don't hear back from it enough times. (You may need to do this a couple times.) If that doesn't happen, the device is likely online somewhere--and you won't get the option because the hub does hear back. This is probably good except that you don't know where the device actually is. If you're trying "Remove" and it's just not working do you see anything in "Logs" when you try? You may need to do it more than once, and I'd suggest waiting a while between attempts. As a last resort, you could try a "clean reboot" of the Z-Wave radio by doing Settings > Shut Down, unplugging the hub from power for about 30 seconds or so, then starting everything back up--then see if it's different.
Third is the question of whether you need to buy a new one. That's not something someone else can answer for you without knowing more about your network, but if it was your only repeater, I'd recommend something. Regardless of distance, pretty much any network could benefit from at least one, particularly if you have locks (where a "beaming" repeater is best--most modern ones are). You don't need a "dedicated" repeater for this purpose, as most mains-powered Z-Wave devices (smart plugs, switches, dimmers, non-battery thermostats or USB-powered sensors if paired that way, etc.) will also act as a repeater. But if your network is currently working fine...
Is it possible they moved (and plugged in) the device to another location, and that is why you can't remove it? Zwave devices are fairly resistant to being removed when they are still communicating.
Been looking for it to no avail. The "Remove" button appears but no joy. I've tried it many times. I just tried the "Clean Reboot" of the Z-Wave radio that * @bertabcd1234 recommended. It's still there! argh!
Do you see anything in "Logs" when you try?
Amazing. I've tried like a zillion times. This time in the logs I get:
sys:12022-07-01 07:33:26.893 pm Failed node 50 remove status: 1 Done
And it looks to be actually gone!
As for repeaters I have 48 Z-Wave devices most of which are powered so theoretically they act as repeaters. But, I do know that two years ago the Aeotec Range Extender really improved the two non-plus Z-Wave devices. Don't know if it added value otherwise. Thanks for your help!
