Has anyone been able to make the Aeotec Micro Double Smart Switch DSC17103-ZWUS work with HE? This is a great switch to mount inside of a ceiling fan to run the motor and light.

That would only provide on-off control for both the light and the fan. You would lose all dimming of the light and speed control of the fan. This is a more popular device for fan control as it integrates with a fan and allows for local RF backup.

No problem. Even has a native HE driver to allow you to control the component devices separately. They can be a PITA to pair though. They almost always need a repeater. I have one that is 5 feet from my hub through one floor, no other walls, and to get it to work I needed to have a zigbee repeater on the other side of the fan from the hub. The fan itself is a HUGE source of interference. But once you have it paired and it is working well, it is really a great device. And having the RF controller included for only $50, its really cheap too.

Good to know, so it's zigbee?
I guess it doesn't matter, I don't have any devices in-between that are zigbee and z-wave.
My kitchen is a deadzone.
I wonder if there are any in-wall switches that repeat both.
I know the Lowes Iris plug-in module repeats both...
That's what I'm using to repeat for it. You might have to experiment with the best placement for it since it will depend on which way the antenna on the receiver is pointed.
